Oriental hammered plate, quite old

Could a kind soul enlighten me as to the age and origin of this splendid
antique hammered silver plate of asian origin? I was told it was japanese but the hallmarks do no resemble the japanese hielogryphics. To my mind, they seem to be Thai or Burmese. As from the amount of effort I have had to apply to clean it, it must be over 100 yrs old!

Myanmar is very much in the news those days. One gets glimpses, on occasion, of the burmese writing so I would like to bring to the fore, again, my old plate. Does it strike anybody that my hallmark might be burmese in origin? I have e-mailed burmese embassy and business establishment in Rangoon with my obsessive curiosity. Have been ignored, alas- which is their standard reply, I gather.
