various chinese silver items (maybe Wang Hing)

Postby ktiggeloven » Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:01 pm

Hello fellow silver enthusiasts.
Last week I have been able to acquire several Chinese silver pieces from an estate in the Hague, the Netherlands. they look to be one set, and from what I heard have always been together. They are all marked WH and 90. However, the Chinese characters differ on various items. I hope somebody can tell me in these are indeed Wang Hing items, and can tell me what the characters mean. Thanks in advance and kind regards,

Hi Kasper,

Yes the mark is that of Wang Hing but he is not the maker. Wang Hing was a retailer with shops in Hong Kong and Canton, the Chinese character mark is the mark of the maker.

Thanks Trev,
at least that cleared some things up. Does anybody happen to know who in fact the makers are?
kind regards, Kasper

Hi Kasper,

The mark on the second photograph, on the mirror, could possibly be that of Hui, he was known to be working in Hong Kong 1850-1900 and was known to be a supplier to retail outlets. The period for Wang Hing would be 1875-1925 so datewise it would also be a good fit, the mark to me is similar, but I offer it only as a possibility.

Regards Trev.
