Table spoon, before 1900

Postby Seeberg1 » Wed Jan 23, 2008 8:56 am

Hello,
this table spoon is from China, before 1900. A chines lady who could not really read it, told me the letters in the oval are old fashion and not used in 20th century.

I think that may be a variation of the mark of Hoaching, the time period also makes sense for the form of the spoon. see -> Chinese Export Marks

Thank you very much,
I am not familiar with chinese, but the Hall mark of the spoon and the one of Hoachin are not resembling as far as I can see.

The mark on the right is not a Chinese character, but is a Lombardic font "H". It is on its side in the image, turn it 90 degrees to the left to view. If you still don't see a resemblance, please clean the mark a little more and post another photo. We will try and get it right.

Regards, Tom
