I have been wondering about this bowl for a long time. It's like a big cup (the bowl is about 4 1/2" wide and 2" tall), but the rim is scallopped and wouldn't be nice drinking from, so it may be intended for some other use or be entirely decorative.
If wonder if anyone can shed light on its origin? I understand the .900 standard has been used in the US, Argentina, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Egypt, China and Japan. When I bought it, the seller thought the bowl might be Italian, but I'm beginning to wonder if another country is more likely. Maybe somewhere in South America or perhaps Turkey? I once saw an alledgedly Turkisk candlestick for sale that had a similar bird handle and acanthus leaf decoration, but that piece was marked .800.
The marks are very rubbed. The maker's mark could be 'AN' but I am not at all sure. Does anyone have an opinion on this?
