Arabic hallmark on silver from Egypt - can u translate??

Postby lizcolman » Sat Apr 07, 2007 3:12 pm

Hi there,

My parents bought me a silver pendant from Egypt, and the only hallmark it has is an arabic one on the back. I have done some research on the web, but cannot find anything that will tell me what it means! Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,
Liz

PS please forgive the awfully HUGE pictures, but I cannot zoom in any further without the image blurring, and my image editing suite is not working so I cannot crop.

The word on this item very clearly says (Fayez). This would be the name of the silversmith.

It reads "Al-Fayez".

This is the trade mark of a Cairene silversmith who comes from a famous silversmith family.

His name is Fayez Wassef.

His given name "Fayez" roughly translates into "Winner"
"Al-Fayez" into "The Winner"
