SILVER CIGARETTE CASE

Postby NancyCaroline » Sat Mar 26, 2011 1:10 pm

Hi Everyone,
Can anyone shed light on this cigarette case? I've compared the mark to everything I can find online without success. Also curious about the imagery and it's relevance. Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Nancy

Hi,

The decoration contains tughra devices so presumably your cigarette case is Turkish.

See: http://www.kurkman.com/images/40-41.jpg (bottom image 15 on the righthand side) and http://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks.html (Turkey)

Hi Trev,

Many thanks for the links. I did previously look at the Turkish marks on http://www.925, but wasn't sure if they were a good match. The site showing the devices is excellent. I appreciate your help.
Best, Nancy

Hello,

You have a fine piece of Othman/ Russian silver. The meena, the black ink is the work of the Turks. The box itself is stamped "wan" and "jamarani" , is Russian. It commemorates the victories of the Sultan. This is a very fine piece. You are fortunate.

Regards
