Need help with Iraqi Silver Brooch Hallmark

Postby burnhamlisa » Mon Feb 07, 2011 3:04 pm

I have a brooch that appears to be of Iraqi origin based on what little I can find on the internet. I think the hallmark indicates a city of assay on top and the Arabic numerals for 80 on the bottom (meaning 80 percent silver). I don't know what the symbol for city of assay means though (which city it signifies) and I also don't know the time period during which this type of mark was used. Can anyone help?

Hello,

Your piece seems more Egyptian than Iraqi. The markings are from Egypt. Many Jewelry pieces, rings, bracelets were made in this style. I cannot detemine the age.

Regards
