Unknown Marks on Beakers

Postby eleazar » Thu Jan 20, 2011 6:34 pm

Hi, does anyone have an idea of age or origin? I think that the marks in the bottom are for testing the silver, is this right?
Thanks in advance!

Turkish Assay marks.

Hello »eleazar«

The marks are Turkish Assay marks.

Yours image of marks is to much little for examination of details - please place another, very clear image! But please not an enlarged version of the existing file!

The line marks on the bottom are resulting from the Assayers proof.

In XIX century were the Turkish minimum fineness = 900-1,000.

In XX century were the Turkish minimum fineness = 800-1,000.

The age: I think first quarter of XX century.

Please add another, much better image of the marks - please from both items!

Thank you in advance for yours comprehension and cooperation!

Kind regards silverport

Hello,

You have fine pieces here. Sah and the Turkish "turra" of Sultan Abdel Hameed are on them. These pieces are uncommon in the Middle East as they are rare, not many made. (admin edit)
