Postby buddhabobby » Mon Sep 15, 2008 11:39 am

hello,

i have this old bowl.

have had for a couple years. picked it up at fleamarket and use to hold pocket change and keys.

bowl is 5 inches at widest. opening is 4 inches. top to bottom is about 3 1/2 inches.

seems to be hand made.

there is a mark on bottom. makers mark?

does anyone know anything about this?

Hi,
In my limited experience in this area, the design and decoration resemble most closely those seen in Iranian metalwork.
It would appear to be made of copper, rather than silver, and it is clad in silver or, more likely, tin.

Hello,

This piece is a red brass Iranian bowl used for bathing called Tasat Ru'ba. It comes from Isfahan. The words Sahib 'owner" Faldeen (a name) appear on the bottom. Names of God appear on the rim. An Islamic piece. Seems well worn perhaps mid-twentieth century.

Regards.

THANKS for the info!!!

so the words are " Sahib Faldeen"?

is that the name?

unsure what you meant when you wrote 'owner' in the message.

Hello again,

The word owner means, the person who possesses this is Faldeen.

Hi,

'Sahib' is a term of respect, just as we would call someone 'sir'. It is not a name.

Hi Bobby,

Yes, but not as an official title, but as a respectful one.
Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahib for a better explanation.
