Post by JanGroen »

Good day
I found these 2 bowls at the market today. They are bross with copper and silver inlay. 10cm in diameter and 3.5cm hight. They silver inlay seems to be Arabic script. Any information about these will be welcome.

Hello Jannie

These bowls are examples of Mamluk Revival metal work. It is oftern referred to as Cairoware although it was produced in both Egypt and Syria.

Please see notes at https://www.hmoa.org/art/exhibition/mam ... ommunity-t and https://islamicart.museumwnf.org/databa ... us22;47;en

Hope this is of interest
