French Woman silversmith in Mexico

Post by AME »

Hello!

Any info on this necklace? I don't currently have a picture of the mark and can get that if it will help identify. I was told the style was quite typical of the artist, a French woman doing silver work in Mexico. Thank you for any leads and info.

Hi,
MATL (the mark) was founded by Matilde Eugenia Poulat before WW II. Her nephew Ricardo Salas joined her and expanded business in Mexico City.
The shop is closed now, but family business continued in shops in Santa Monica, California, and in Washington, D.C.
Your necklace must be after 1960 (the year of her death) when Salas added his name to Matl.
