Is this a Francisco Rivera Mark?

Postby nancy128 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 12:36 pm

I have looked through your Mexican Marks and I think that the ring I have is made by Francisco Rivera. Can you confirm this? Thank you in advance. I'm sorry for the gigantic pictures. I'm still working on how to fix that.

That could be the mark of Francisco Rivera, not sure. It's also similar to a mark used by Juventino Lopez Reyes, he had different styles of his mark. Here's a scan from my only book on Mexican marks comparing their marks. Your guess is as good as mine.

Hi,
The marks are similar, but Reyes was a maker of holloware in Mexico City.
It's likely a small version of Rivera's mark. As far as maker's marks go, Rivera's commonly seen mark is quite large and would never have fit in a ring shank. Seem to recall reading somewhere that he liked to work in 980 and hung on to the standard long after most others switched to 925.

Regards, Tom
