Sterling and abalone ring with more than 1 eagle mark

Post by daisydog »

I have been trying to educate myself about Mexican silver. I understand that the eagle mark 1 generally meant Mexico City and 3 was for Taxco. On a sterling and abalone adjustable ring I purchased there is a 3 mark inside with the usual Taxco 925 Sterling Hecho in Mexico mark and there is a 1 mark on the outside of the band. The ring is really unlike anything I've seen and I really like it. But why the different eagle marks?

Hello Ms. Dog-

Are you sure the mark is an eagle mark, and not a makers mark? really hard to tell. Either way I agree that it is a nice looking ring.

Best wishes- Byron

Hello Byron,

I'm pretty sure the mark in photo 3 is an eagle mark. You can see the rounded bottom of the mark and the tips of the wings. Wouldn't the maker's mark just be the initials inside the "Taxco Sterling" circle? Unfortunately, they are close to illegible. Maybe a "G" for the last one and I can't decide on the first one.

Regards,
Janice

Sorry, I meant photo 2 in the above post. Photo 3 is obviously an eagle mark.
