candle stick mark

Postby silverore » Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:41 pm

Hi,
I'm new to the forum. Can anyone help me identify this mark? It also is stamped sterling and 925. I'm not sure it's American.
Thanks
Dave

Welcome to the forum. This candlestick was made in Mexico. The mark shown is of Plateria I. Vigueras. I see it has an eagle stamp, but can not make out the number. The correct eagle number should be 35. You state it is marked Sterling, however, I do not see this in your photo (the 925 is legible). From Hougart's book, "Plateria Vigueras produced mostly hollowware and decorative silver objects, including large birds. The company was located in Mexico City."

Hope this helps. Best wishes, TD
