Thank you for all the suggestions. I am using the second coaster for "torture" tests, so I'll try the sulphuric acid bath and let you know. In the meantime, I have scratched the back deep enough that it would show copper if it were copper, so at least it's not. Looking at it with a magnify...

Desperately need help re yogya silver - solid or plated?

Just bought some yogya silver and am befuddled. The first one is marked 800PK. But when I started polishing the back, it developed a slight copperish hue. An acid test however failed to reveal copper under the silver. http://b.imagehost.org/t/0364/925_004.jpg http://b.imagehost.org/t/0617/925_003.jp...

To everybody who contributed to enlightening me, a heartfelt THANK YOU. To silverport especially who knows so much more than I do, it is so much better to have enough knowledge to make a comment than to be as ignorant as I am.. I can only ask questions and cannot give answers, but little by little I...

Thank you silverport. Looking at a lot of Hanau silver on the internet, it looks like the GR mark is not compulsory for Georg Roth items, so it seems the probability is higher for him than for Dingeldein? Also because Georg Roth was known for "French-looking" items? Any thoughts on who the...

Thinking it might be a Hanau item, I found that the British WM in a diamond is for William Moehring, a London importer of Hanau items, so this increases the possibility this is not French but German Hanau. http://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_hanau_marks_01.html" onclick="window.open(this.href)...

Thank you silverport and JAKJO. Obviously, I prefer JAKJO's analysis, it is much more flattering to my purchasing acumen! I am still of the opinion that the maker's mark is M.O, because there is a dot after the M and no dot after the first half of the O which is shaped (| |) like this. Anyway, many ...
