Thanks Trev, have you seen the addition of a heart or other symbol to a makers mark before to define the work in either silver or gold?
Regards,
Trevor

watch case maker circa 1720
Hello, Firsly appologies if this is posted in the wrong section. I am trying to determine who the case maker is of a verge movement pair cased watch that I have aquired. The movement is by Daniel Delander and dates to circa 1715 -1720. The outer case is (I believe) silver gilt and the inner case gol...

fur trade silver
Hello, I have a silver cross in the shape of the cross of lorraine which I believe was made as an item for the early fur trade. The cross measures 8cms x 4 cms and is engraved and marked on both sides with GF in an oval punch, the bottom serif of the F appears to be elongated. There is evidence of w...

Re: help with maker paris maison commune 1789
Hello Francois, Thank you for your help. The makers mark looks like a star under a fleur de lys with a pellet each side of the star, the right hand letter is, I believe, a B, the letter under the star could be a P but that is a guess, the left hand letter is not visible. I will try and take a better...

help with maker paris maison commune 1789
Hello, Could anyone help identify the maker of this small silver beaker. The marks I recognise are those of Paris "Maison Commune" of 1789 but the makers mark and charge/discharge mark I have been unable to identify. Trevor http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u489/grandru/beaker_zps1789518...

Re: Consensus on NC mark
Hello, Thank you for your reply. I read with interest what I assume was your articles from 2009 and 2011 on these two spoons whilst trawing through some back copies of journals for possible links or information to this NC mark, having exhausted other routes. If I can find anything further that enhan...

Consensus on NC mark
Hello, I have recently aquired a London Charles 2 trefid spoon with the date mark for 1683. The makers mark is NC in a heart shaped punch with a fleur de lys below. The similar mark identified in Jacksons pg 135 2nd item has 4 pellets below, perhaps the trefid spoon from which this was identifed was...

Re: Britannia Hanovarian Spoon 1705
Hello Rhodrit, By chance my copy of the Finial has just arrived (the magazine of the Silver Spoon Club of Great Britain) and in it is a lengthy informative article on early Hanovarian spoons by Richard Stagg. To cut it short the earliest Hanovarian pattern spoon that he recalls is a London example f...

Re: Need help in identifying these marks...it may be French
Hello Warren, Thank you for your reply. My research has also identified the box to be associated with King Farouk and particularly that similar boxes were given to guests at his wedding to Queen Farida in 1938. A silver and enamel box matching the same description was also reputedly found on his bod...

Re: please help me identify the date
On reflection I think you are correct at 1914. I have found reference to the Ltd on the earlier mark (registered in 1911?) that had the td elevated and in lower case lettering, the later mark (registered in 1919?) had the LTD in capitals and aligned....although I could find nothing on the Birmingham...

Hello Alona,
The date letter P would put it at 1939 - 1940.

Re: Need help woth Birmingham date
That was my thoughts also....but the cartouche appears to be the wrong shape for both the gothic "r" and the "t". Each of these date letters are shown as being in an oval cartouche.

Re: Need help in identifying these marks...it may be French
Hi Trev,
Thank you, this has pointed me in the right direction (and not the direction I thought I would be going!). I believe the assay office was Cairo and the date letter is 1946 but welcome further advice.

Trevor

Need help in identifying these marks...it may be French
Hello, I have a small (45 mm diam) silver pill box with an enamel top complete with silver crown and letter F. The inside of the box is gilded and the marks are on the bottom of the box. I would appreciate help in identifying the country of manufacture, the probable date and maker. I am unsure if th...

Re: A small bowl by Robert Lucas?
Hi Trev, As you correctly state, there is a slight dome to the base so, mystery solved (although why the assayer grouped the marks so close together when there was so much more room on the base of the bowl will probably remain a mystery). Thank you for taking the time to reply and with such clarity....

A small bowl by Robert Lucas?
Hello, I have a small bowl with marks for London 1741. The makers mark is overtsruck by the assay marks. The sequencing of striking these marks appears to be lion passant/makers mark/leopards head crowned/date letter. I believe the maker is Robert Lucas but would appreciate anyones opinion on this. ...

Re: does any one recognise this makers mark?
Hi Trev, There is no evidence of another mark beneath the Z or the crossed Z's. The Z on the far right is in a slight depression as if it was a cartouche but I do not believe the marks are formed as such. I can see no sign of overmarking (other than a Z over a Z) or old punch marks being filled eith...
