Re: Maltese silver casting bottle/flask
Hi, I think the book you are referring to is The Silver of Malta by Alaine Apap Bologna, she worked at Christie’s Geneva where she was head of silver and watches. I am trying to source a copy at reasonable cost.

Re: Maltese silver casting bottle/flask
Hi Traintime, thank you for your response. Not crazy at all however looking closely at the mark I cannot associate it with those for Augsburg so the search goes on...perhaps I need to buy a book on Maltese silver!

Maltese silver casting bottle/flask
Hello, I have been trying to research the hallmarks on recent acquisition being a 17th century Maltese silver casting bottle. The marks that I have identified are the 17th century mark of MA surmounted by a Maltese cross, a makers mark of AP in a rectangle which I believe is Andrea Pace, an assay sc...

The swan mark.....again
Hi, I have been reviewing the earlier posts on the swan mark struck on items of silver and the general consensus is that, other than on watch cases, the dates of use are between 1864 and 1893. If I have misinterpreted this or missed a post then I would be grateful for further guidance. However this ...

Re: Makersmarks IC and H(?)A
Hello, A similar HA mark (crown above mullet below) is listed in Grimwade’s unregistered marks section (3598) and was recorded on a snuff box assayed in 1717. I can find no record of the IC mark. A similar snuff box with the same HA mark but an assay date of 1716/17 recently appeared at auction wher...

Not sure this can add anything to the debate but this is a York mark for John Hampston and John Prince c1788 on a claret wine label.

I agree that most likely late 18th century and my thoughts are possibly French, probably provincial. Montpellier? Blakstone is a more informed authority on this.

Re: Gilt trefid teaspoon, date & maker help
Personally am not one hundred percent certain that it was made in London (perhaps Dutch?), the rat tail seems to be too well defined for an item as small as a tea spoon and more what I would expect to see on a larger trefid spoon, but the absence of a full set of hallmarks, other than the makers mar...

Apologies for the incomplete response. Your spoon can be dated to circa 1690 the maker however is unknown to me.

Hi,
Here is a similar tea spoon by Jean Harache for comparison. Learn to love the spoon in its existing condition as I have for a sweetmeat fork!

Hello, Just an update and to close out this post. Having researched the 4 possible attributions from David I am now of the opinion that the crest is for John Tayleur (b1708 - d1737) of Rodington, he was the third child of 4 (Sarah, Mary-Ann and William) of William Tayleur and his wife Dorothy née Ma...
