Snuff boxes were made for the pocket or the table, I should imagine yours is of the latter.

It appears to be by Sheffield maker Creswick & Co with a date letter 1825 but with Queen Victoria duty mark which would not be right for this date.
Lets see what others think.

This teaspoon circa 1765 appears to have a lion's face surrounded by scrolls.

Thanks very much for the information guys, there are no further marks on the jug, if the handle was originally marked it has completely worn away and left no evidence.
