Re: Dawson (Birmingham) Ltd is who?
Thank you Trev and Phil for hunting out these extra fragments of information. We definitely know Dawsons were in Sheffield to make War Dept. cutlery during WW2. I am particularly happy get the information that there was the Government directive centralising cutlery production in Sheffield. This actu...

Re: Beehive maker’s mark? Rudge Retailer?
Hello again, I think I will stop buying old electroplate cutlery so I do not have to keep replying to my own posts. Researching an old meat cleaver turned up another Sheffield cutler using the “Beehive mark”. Picture below. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jp...

Re: Beehive maker’s mark? Rudge Retailer?
I have another image now that I think could be related to the electroplating concern in my earlier post. The marks below are on another teaspoon. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg We see the beehive image flanked by “Beehive” and “Silver but there is no ot...

White Metal “MB” mark and “JA” with “cross” maker.
Hello, I recently bought the remains of what I believed to be an incomplete silver plated cafetiere. I cleaned it up and replaced the glass. There are marks on the top and the lower metal pieces and photos are below. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg I see...

Re: ID on gold and silver watch band ends/extenders
Hello American Jewellery, I am bringing some spoon marks to show you. I have a souvenir spoon with the crossed “miners pick and shovel” mark similar to the watch band that seems to be associated with Joseph Mayer & Brothers. There a several other Forum threads referencing Mayer Brothers but unfo...

Hello again I was not clever enough to reference "Gilberts" in the way I thought I could. You may or may not need to search for "Gilbert" in this particular post.

Hello, my attention was attracted by the retailers mark that was present inside the arm of a pair of electroplated sugar tongs and it is pictured below. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg It reads “R.Gilbert & Sons Ltd”, the “something” jewellers of “Coventry & Barrow”. We will sort the ...

Re: Views of British Silversmith's and Jeweller's Premises
“R.Gilbert & Sons Ltd” Coventry, Warwickshire, England Hello. I started to research a retailer’s mark on some electroplated sugar tongs but it took only a short time before I had information overload. I hope some images may be informative here. The name on the tongs was “R.Gilbert & Sons Ltd...

Re: Gold Ring. London Newcastle Sheffield?
Thank you Dognose and Ag2012 for you quick if disappointing replys. I did see the possibility of “PLAT” but knew that it was not a plated ring. Platinum never entered my head. Most of the rings I have examined previously, though that is not many, had obvious makers marks on.

Gold Ring. London Newcastle Sheffield?
Hello, I just had possession, for a very short while, of a family ring on its way to the next generation. Evidence for dating this ring was not strong with me and I made some quick photos in the hope of help from the forum. I am sorry the photographic quality is not as good as I like to upload. Phot...

Thank you Traintime and Aguest for your quick replies and comments. With Traintime’s pictures I can see the “ knights helmet with plume over a shield “ that flipper in a sailboat is supposed to represent. Thank you for condensing a lot of information about “ISC” in one post. I am sure plenty more pe...

Hello I thought this image could be a useful addition to this post. Tsarbucks has uploaded a nice photo of the “Britanoid” trademark and “Unity Plate” used by Barker Brothers but below there is another trademark identifying some nickel silver "NS" spoons. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg...

Re: British Retailers mark Walsall
Hello, doing some research on a spoon from another Northern retailer I found this photo on line. This ad is said to have been taken from an 1888 business directory. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg The ad clearly confirms Dognose’s earlier comment about j...

Re: Spoon maker with “rabbit” figural mark. Another Chenailler?
Thank you Blackstone and JayT for your insightful comments on my post a so very rapidly. It seems first that unfortunately for research, the spelling of both the Christian name and Surname, of this “BC” may cause problems for others in addition to me. I get from comments that my spoon was not for gr...

Spoon maker with “rabbit” figural mark. Another Chenailler?
Hello, I’ve had to come back to France as I am having a bit of trouble with rabbits and chickens. I recently bought a Harlequin “set” of French, probable grapefruit spoons. (second opinion if possible). Below is a composite photo of one of them and some larger images of the marks. The spoon is 13.5 ...

Re: Need help with AJD maker's mark
Thanks for your comments Peter. How clever were those mid 19th century Dutch Guild masters to stripe that “l” cartouche knowing that in 150 years a silly English man would not be able to tell the difference between an “l” and an “i”.
