Re: Unknown markings on knifes, help wanted
Hi, These are the marks from Clasen. As you can see the town mark and the warden mark look the same as on the knife. These marks are dated 1763-1769. Maker mark "ER" is dated about 80 years earlier, according to Clasen. Although the maker mark looks a lot like the maker mark on the knife, ...

Re: Unknown markings on knifes, help wanted
Found him in another book as well. In Carl-Wilhelm Clasen, "Rheinische Silbermarken" , page 213 "nr. 923. Meister ER. Veilleicht Eberhart Raiben, Bueger 1689." The master mark (925/929) looks very much alike. The town mark (928) for 1763-1769 and the warden mark (931) for 1763-17...

Re: Unknown markings on knifes, help wanted
Hi Oel,
The key fits all right, but what about ca 1689? Nice picture of the towns mark by the way.

Zilverik

Re: Unknown markings on knifes, help wanted
Interesting, but for me ca 1689 doesn't match the form of the handle as well. What is the city Eberhard Raiben worked? Is that key in the city mark?

Never seen the combination of these marks. I bought French silver (Tetard et freres) in Cairo with only French marks.

Re: Unknown markings on knifes, help wanted
Because the end of the key that is to hold has square, I looked at Bremen. In Scheffler's "Goldschmiede Niedersachsens" I could not find a plausible (19e/20e century) "ER". Maybe it's not an "E"?

Re: Viennese silver 1840s Maker "FS"
I just found out that I mixed the information up. The cutleries are from 1847. That is a fact. So FS had to work in 1847.
Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Viennese silver 1840s Maker "FS"
Hello Jack, I had a better look. My best guesses before can't be correct. Franz Simmerl worked from 1843 till 1868. J.C. Klinkosch started his own company in 1869 (before he worked with Mayerhofen). So, the period differs. Franz Schubert worked till 1862. Franz Schnepf (Lexicon part II, page 192 Wie...

Re: Maker of this asian (tea?) box?
Hi David R,
Yes you are right. The box is not made of silver, but brass. The marks are fantasymarks.
Thanks

Re: Viennese silver 1840s Maker "FS"
Still difficult. According to Neuwirth there are 32 marks "FS" between 1781 and 1866 of witch 6 with a dot. Is there a dot between the "F" and "S"? Or is that the light that it looks like a dot? Without the dot I guess marknr. P840 Franz Simmerl (B 1843) or marknr. P847...

Re: Vienna Silversmith?
Hi silverfan, I count 16 Stern's in Neuwirth's book. Silversmiths, factories and retailers/juwelers. Come to think of it, the name STERN on your knife is probably more the retailers/juwelers name than the name of the silversmith. The 16 names are sometimes mentioned that it is clearly a silversmith ...

Re: Crowned monogram on cut-card chamber stick
The Cardeilhac-mark on this chamber stick was used between 1851-1904. The new "Napoleon-barons" still existed in those days?

Crowned monogram on cut-card chamber stick
This French chamber stick (Cardeilhac, 250 gr. ; Length overall 20 cm; height 5,8 cm; "diameter" 13,5 cm) is made with the cut-card technique. An applique technique in which the required motif was cut from a sheet of silver and then soldered onto the piece. Apparently the same happened wit...

This chamber stick was in 2011 in de French silver forum, because I couldn't find the maker: "Daubree who knows more about him?" Thanks to the forum (jgl) the master is know now: AD = Alfred Daubree. He made bronzes as well. Not surprised that the chamber stick is all cast silver. Weight 4...

Crest on heavy French chamber stick
This French chamber stick has a weight of 300 grams. The French minerve mark on all the parts where it should be. No makers mark at all. Also no rubbed mark. Maybe the crest has something to do that there is no makers mark? What family is behind the coat of arms? Regards, Zilverik https://www.925-10...
