Re: German 800 mark without crescent moon & crown

Hello, incomplete sets of German marks can be found from time to time and have no special significance. It just was not done properly. The Bruckmann eagle seems to have the form used (to my knowledge) after 1918, a pic of the object might tell more. Regards, Bahner

Re: "ROSTFREI" Spoon Oddity-War trophy?

Hello, this would be Reichsbahn-Ausbesserungs-Werk Neuaubing, a repair facility of the old German National Railroad, Neuaubing being near Munich. No connection to Northern Africa or German military forces. Believe that after the war it was renamed MNA für München-Neuaubing, so this would be pre-1945....

Hello, agree with Cheryl, most likely of German origin. Have seen this pattern appear in 800 /1000 fine silver on German auction sites (unfortunately I do not remeber the maker) and it being attributed to designer M.J. Gradl. Regards, Bahner

Hello, this is the "Prinzess"-pattern made by Lutz and Weiss, Pforzheim Germany, around 1904. The designer is not known. Bernhard was the retailer who sold this. The other marks are Russian import marks. Regards, Bahner

Re: Is this Loth 13?

Hello, numbers for Lot are usually punched, this one is engraved and larger than the other marks. So I believe this to have some other meaning, like an inventory number. Regards, Bahner

Re: Lovely Silver Kiddush Cup Engraved w/1837

Hello, Hanukka (Chanukka) might be considered the Jewish equivalent of christmas. It is a moveble eight-day feast and may or may not include the date engraved on the cup. So no obvious connection here. Regards Bahner

Re: identify maker and period

Hello, actually Posen was active in Frankfurt until November 9th, 1938, when the shop was looted during "Kristallnacht" and never reopened. As to the closure of the Berlin branch of Posen I have been unable so far to find th exact date but supect a similiar one and the same reason. Regards...

Hello and no problem, admin will move it to the correct section. And yes You are right - maker was Krupp Berndorf from Austria, the pattern was designed before 1900 and in production for a few decades, believe there are no exact production dates. Regards, Bahner

Hello, looks indeed like the mark of Weinranck / Weinranck and Schmidt. The mark on the right hand side is the old Hanau city mark which was punched by some makers for traditional reasons only, as it no longer has any legal implications. Regards, Bahner

Hello, just offering a possibility, but "0.800" rather than "800" can also be found on Swiss pieces. To my knowledge designer's monograms or names are never to be found on Hanau-like pieces like that, so I rather suspect a retailer, too. Regards Bahner

Hello, A. Wieder was a retailer/seller from Cologne/Germany, later from Stade. He mostly sold patterns designed and made by major German cutlery manufacturers, in this case a pattern by Koch and Bergfeld from Bremen, one of the patterns attributed to designer Hugo Leven. Lehn went broke in the 1950i...

Re: Tray Marked "Posen" was it made by them or retailed?

Hello, crown and halfmoon may vary, their shape rarely give good clues. Would agree that POSEN and the P were added later, the other marks are in my opinion those of the original maker. Regards, Bahner
