I notice that my reference to the date page at Birmingham assay office site has been changed to 925-1000 site. The Birmingham site was given specifically because of the reference to date punch outline and watch cases

Hi The mark shown would be Birmingham 1874. The punch outline used at Birmingham in the latter part of 19 century was not always the one published, although the date letter will be. Refer date letter page at http://www.925-1000.com/dlBirmingham.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return ...

Hi These buttons appear to be imported into the UK, and if you are not aware, my reading of the marks are 1 Sterling mark, 2 Date letter for 1902, 3 Import Mark, 4 Mark for London. I have been trying to work out whether there is another mark below marks 2 and 3. My guess on the RF is that it is the ...

A question - was Brittania mark ever used in Dublin, as I understand when the Brittania standard came in to replace Sterling in 1697 - 1720, the Charter did not reach some of the outlying assay offices, and Dublin was one. So would Dublin have had a Brittania punch? Presumeably now adays Dublin Brit...

Hi. The marks don't look clear to me , but from what I can tell my interpretation is, the first mark is the sponsors mark which looks like ? M R, can't help, the second and third marks I take to be a Crown and 375 which are the carat marks for 9 ct gold. the next mark, an anchor on its side for Birm...

I don't really know what to make of this item. To me the G.W.H & Co mark is G.W.Harvey & Co. which appears to over stamp another mark. The full set of Birmingham marks normally on the major component, and only two marks on other detachable components is normal I don't know how big the parts ...

The marks you are showing appear to be Gorham marks (American). if you go to Home page on this site, Gorham is listed, although I expect another viewer will be able to provide further information

I am not too familiar with the European Convention Marking on Imported Items, but it does look like - AJ would be the importer who I can't help with, 925 the fineness mark, X the Assay Office - Edinburgh , the last mark the Common Control Mark.

From what I see of the marks, sponsor looks more like SB & S LD which would be S Blanckansee & Sons Limited, whilst the date I prefer is the B for 1927.

I agree with London 1931, the sponsor I am unsure on as this mark is not clear. My guess would be that the mark is D.F in which case the most likely would be Josiah Williams and Co - David Landsborough Fullerton.

I believe your sponsors mark is William Hutton and Sons Ltd. About 2/3 of the right hand side of the mark is worn away, leaving mainly the Ss of the Sons and to the right of this one curved side of the H. See British Hallmarks London section this site. The number 2 I do not know its exact purpose. I...

I would agree with the stones in the bottom half of the brooch being Bloodstone and Jasper, but without actually seeing the stones I would consider Agate from East Coast of Scotland for top left hand and possibly a Jasper for the top right hand stones. They could be all Scottish gemstones.

Britannia standard silver has had a London Mark of Britannia and Lions Head erased (with variation) through the centuries, I believe the change to Leopards head was in 1975. What goes on in the 21st century I haven't got a clue. 1697 to 1720 was the period when Britannia was the only standard i.e th...
