Who were S.J. Levi & Co.?
I took a quick photo of this mark on the bottom of an electroplated pierced fruit bowl as I didn't recognise the maker. After a bit of research I came to a slightly clearer example of the pictorial part of the manufacturers mark. The Reg.Number on the bowl base suggests manufacture 1919 or later. ht...

Re: Looking for help identifying makers mark
Hello, Welcome to the Forum. This looks an interesting mark, and I am surprised no one on the Forum has given you an answer yet. Am I correct in saying the "GSE" lettering is surrounded by a snake swallowing its tail. I a sure that iconic image should ring some bells with someone on the Fo...

Re: Pewter jug (Jarra de estaño o peltre)
Hello again, I think this is an image that could have interest with this post. This is a smaller jug than the one in "Funkel's" images and although also made by "James Yates" it has the sub title of "Late Yates & Birch". https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/522570524...

Thank you Scotrab for answering the questions that my new Captain's spoon had raised for me. No worries about delay. Very specialist knowledge, like time, is often in short supply. I have 2 Captain's spoons now.

Re: London 1905 Hastings Souvenir Spoon, but who made it?!
Hello, that registration mark dates about the same period as the hallmarks. The pattern number is1904-1905 date, and as Phil knows well, I like a bit of speculation on rubbed makers marks. Period wise could the maker's mark be one of those complicated marks used by the various incarnations of Barnar...

Re: Please help with hallmark on this clock
Hello dxb and good morning Phil. Is this a genuine mark or is it possible the maker could be "& son" but the sponsor or retailer has overstruck the "K" on the first part of the makers mark? This would make it difficult to sort. It would be a pity as the clock certainly looks ...

Hello, I am looking at the marks on the rear of the items finial. It is easier to see if you turn your image to the side to the right. There is the gothic style letter "S", then the gothic style "&" and then the gothic "N". You would expect this to be the initials o...

Re: hallmark ID anyone recognize it?
Hello, the dreaded gothic lettering again. Do we have S&N? Do you think it would be possible to clean that next pictorial mark up a bit and re-photograph? It looks like a crescent moon with that children's "old man in the moon" face on. A crescent moon is a trade mark with some known a...
