Re: Tray Marked "Posen" was it made by them or retailed?
Hello, a closer look reveals that the P in a shield was punched over another mark, tend to believe it was the Bruckmann eagle. Posen retailed a LOT of Bruckmann holloware and flatware. Though Posen had its own workshop at least until the end of the 19th century (even the name of the chief designer t...

Re: General question on Hamburg marks
Hello, in many cases a German city mark would also guarantee a certain minimum fineness, so an additional mark would not be necessary. This was the case in Hamburg and Altona, believe the minimum standard was 12 Lot / 750 fine. 800 was very uncommon before 1884. Regards, Bahner

Hello, no doubt that the 13 is for Lot. Also agree that this is not Bibus but older. Unfortunately it will be near to impossilble to identify the maker. The pattern was VERY popular across Europe and without any other clue... Sorry. Regards Bahner

Hello, Carl Stabenow was and still is a jeweller from Stralsund, Germany.

The logo on the top side of the piece may have some connection to that region. From my experience the current owners have little to no knowledge of the back history of their company,. Regards, Bahner

Hello, no doubt this is Vienna. What is the symbol between the letters ? A cross, a vertical line, a horizontal line, a dot ? That is essential to pin down the maker. A pic of the object may help, too. Regards, Bahner

Hello, agree, hallmark of Stuttgart and Foehr as the maker. Foehr was founded in 1801 by Andreas Ludwig Foehr, Eduard (d. 1904) did not take over until 1858. So this might be from his time or before his time. Regards, Bahner
