Weird silver necklace
Good day I found this today in a charity shop. It is silver what seems to be a moonstone set in it. The mark are tiny and found where the chain attach. It looks illike a large 'n' with A of 7 between its legs. Any help with the mark or origin will be welcome. Dankie Jannie https://i.postimg.cc/p9Gyj...

Sugar tongs marked JP & S S
Good day I found this today. A sugar tongue only marked J P & SS. I think it could be solid and not plated. Any suggestions are welcome. Jannie https://i.postimg.cc/Yh2RYGYY/20230311-164419.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/0btffk03/20230311-164436.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/HrVtvqSL/20230311-164620.jpg ht...

Table Mountain Shielf on Mappin & Webb fork
Good day I have found this in a local flea market in Cape Town today. It is a cake fork from Mappin & Webb in Princes Plate. It bares a W in shield that could be a plate date mark. It also bares a H in a diamond shape. The shield is topped by Table Mountain. In the shield there is a anchor with ...

Re: Very long marrow spoon
Hi Jannie, It's not silver I'm afraid. The maker is John Nowill & Son of Sheffield. See: https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=14790&p=186428&hilit=nowill#p186428 Trev. Thank you. It was a bit confusing and I also first thought the marks looked like plating marks. It i...

Very long marrow spoon
Good day I found this very nice marrow spoon today. The total length is 22.5cm and the scoop is 12cm. The one top corner of handle had a rough deep damage area that I sanded and polished a little. I don't see any signs of a base metal and believe it could be solid. I cant figure out the makers mark....

Unknown marks of fork
Good day I found this 19cm fork on the market today. I think it may be solid as I can't find and areas where plating ran off. Re: Russian serving spoons 1885
@JeanGroen ...why would anyone put fake marks onto a very plain, imported spoon and leave out the makers mark? Please reread what I wrote 14.1 at 6:22pm. It answers your question! Moreover, regarding import from especially Germany, it was a rather common procedure for mentioned reasons. There are n...

Re: Russian serving spoons 1885
Interesting, why would anyone put fake marks onto a very plain, imported spoon and leave out the makers mark? I can't find any signs that marks have been removed so the fake marks must obviously be on top of them.Mart wrote:I think these are not real marks, fake ones.

Re: Russian serving spoons 1885
Because there is no maker's mark, the spoon is imported and not Russian made. Where from it is imported is a good question, likely from Germany, but....? Thank you for your quick reply. It's interesting that it doesn't have any German marks, but then again it's a few years before Germany started to...

Russian serving spoon 2
Good day This is the second spoon I got today. It is around 21cm with no decorations. If I understand the marks correctly it is from St Petersburg and makers mark could be K.P. Any help will be welcome as I really don't know much about Russian silver. Groete Jannie https://i.postimg.cc/68gw5mWh/2023...

Russian serving spoons 1885
Good day I found 2 serving spoons on the market today. I bought them as plated spoons but believe it's Russian. They are around 21cm long. The first one got a pin prick design and a monogram. I do not see a maker mark and the essay mark is bit damaged. I think the date is 1885. Any help will be welc...

Good day My friend has this following fob chain. I think it is by E Whitehouse & Son from Birmingham. I am not certain about the date letter. It seems to be an I from 1910. Any help will be welcome https://i.postimg.cc/qNzbNH2j/20221117-171049.jpg [/url] https://i.postimg.cc/mc1Ysb7W/20221117-17...

Good evening Some more cutlery from Union Castle Line. This time a tea spoon from 3 years earlier. Re: Scottish spoon
Did some research. The second mark could be a Scottish thistle mark. But not sure why the lines are going through it. The S could be a date mark.

Good afternoon Another boot sale find today. It reminded me of one of those mass produced plated spoons, but the hallmarks and weight in hand just did not fit. It is about 13cm long with 5 marks. First mark is long gone , second looks like a dragon or Phoenix facing to the left, third reminds me of ...
