Bowl from Venice ?

Hi All. Can anyone identify where this bowl is from? Looks like it was made late 18th or early 19th century. It is heavy for its size and is 12cm long. There are 2 marks on the base. The one looks like the winged lion of Venice with the letters NP with pellet between, below. The other mark is only p...

Re: Lion passant facing right

Thanks Trev. Can you leave it with Newcastle as well as Provincial and Colonial or is that against the rules?

Lion passant facing right

Hi All. Can anyone shed any light on this 18th century teaspoon. Its appearance dates it to 1720's or 1730's. It is bottom marked with maker's mark IG with a pellet between and a lion passant facing right (not very well struck, but discernable), in a straight-sided rectangular punch. My initial thou...

Re: Maker of Dutch cream ladle

Many thanks Peter. Agreed - the SVM mark looks very similar.

Is there any convention on which way up the marks were struck?

Maker of Dutch cream ladle

Hi all. Can anyone help identify the maker of this small cream ladle? It is about 10cm long. The maker's mark is stamped on the front of the stem where the handle joins the bowl. It is in an oval punch. There are no other marks. The maker's mark could be WAS, with the W and A conjoined, but the mark...

Help needed!! German marks ?

Dear All. I am hoping someone can identify the marks on the base of this round silver box. It has a pull off lid surmounted with a cast pear with leaves. The box is about 7cm high and 6cm in diameter. Weighs 105 grams. Two of the marks look as though they could be spread eagle wings but I can't be s...

Swedish date letter

Hi All. I have a Swedish silver spoon with the apparent date mark being J5. In all my references there appears to be no letter J in any silver date mark ie there is an I and then a K, but no J! Would be grateful for any comments. Many thanks. John https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.9...

Re: Maker of German silver egg cups

Many thanks Bahner, AG and Trev - much appreciated!
Any ideas as to approximate age/date of the cups? From Trev's Borse report it seems he was working around 1900.

Maker of German silver egg cups

Hi all. Can anyone help identify the maker of these rather unusual German silver egg cups. They are about 4.3cm high and are made from quite heavy gauge silver. They are marked to the base as follows: 800, crescent moon and crown and makers mark U with superimposed V? or even a cojoined M. Any help ...

Re: Southern Suburbs Horticultural Society Medal

Both Capetown and Johannesburg have suburban areas colloquially known as the 'southern suburbs'. I don't know much about horticulture, but some of the plants on the medal look like protea, in which case Capetown would be most likely. Regards John

Maker KD below a crown

Hi All. I have a smallish decorative spoon that looks Dutch in style. Makers mark only KD below a crown. From my limited resources it could be for Klaas Djurrema. As always I am a little concerned about false marks. Would be grateful for any comments. Many thanks. John https://www.925-1000.com/pics/...
