Re: Large Spoon B Mark
Hi Moonshine I'm not an expert at all in French silver, but I think you have the right section. The top mark looks to be the provincial fineness mark for 800 silver, 1819-1838 (the shape of the cartouche is quite distinctive). That would leave the guarantee mark (the oval shape at the bottom) and th...

Re: Help to identify the pendant maker/age
Hi Elena Maker is Joseph and Richard Griffin of Chester. Active from 1895/1896 onwards. Date letter is rubbed, but looks to be in the style of letters from 1901-1925 - but probably before 1913 as the maker became a Ltd company then and the mark changed. Link here for the date letter table - http://w...

Hi
Welcome to the Forum and thanks for your post. While I can't help, we have a number of experts in American coin silver who may be able to assist.
Really like the story behind the spoon too.

Re: Identification - Unknown Maker
Cheers Miles. The maker's mark you describe certainly fits what I have, so I'll use Mr Portelli as the tentative attribution.
Thanks for your help

Agree with Silverly - I read that signature as "J Morris".

Re: Help with identifying cutlery set
Hi Irma I'm not an expert in the area of Silverplate, but the marks on the knife blades are interesting, and may provide a rough date. To quote from this page here (http://www.cutlers-hallamshire.org.uk/history/brearley-and-stainless-steel): "The Firth-Brearley Steel Syndicate was established t...

Cheers Trev. Have had a look at a William Auld mark, and agree it could be him. Date range consistent too.
Thanks

Unknown maker - Exeter (?) spoon
Hi Missing the Lion Passant and a date letter. Town mark looks like Exeter though (happy to be corrected if it is Edinburgh!). Looks like a male duty mark too, for date range. Any idea? https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Thanks in advance for everyone's tim...

Maker - Austrian spoon
Hello all
A fairly standard fiddle back shaped Austrian spoon, assayed in Vienna after 1867 (from the assay mark). Maker is either HS or SH (depending on which way up the mark was stamped). Any idea? Picture below (hopefully!)
Cheers

Identification - Unknown Maker
Hi all It's been a while between visits. About 7 years in fact! Anyway, life moves in mysterious ways and I've re-discovered my passion for sterling silver and hall marking! I've got a fairly plain fiddle back spoon. It was purchased in a (motley?) collection of spoons, the rest of which have been i...

Unknown napkin ring
Dear all Please find following pictures of a napkin ring I picked up about a year ago. While there are not any traditional sterling markings (well, as far as I am aware) it certainly appears to be silver. Any idea as to history? I reckon North America / early 20th century? http://i245.photobucket.co...
