Almost every Imperial Russian Judaica silver is faked because fakers think it`s lucrative to sell. You better forget the offer, although it`s not clear to me how the engraving proved to be modern; It`s about unleavened bread.

Hi,
I see unicorn of Schwäbisch Gmünd (19.Century). 13 Loth was more common, but there is silver of 12Loth fineness (.750). Solid silver, anyway.

Re: Help with ID on this Russian mirror
Show us the close up of the coat of arms; it does not look Imperial Russian, could be custom made for royalty elsewhere, or Russian heraldic lower nobility. How is it attacched to the frame ? There are too many pitfalls with this kind of ``royalty, imperial`` items. Also, show us the back of the pic...

English term is reticulated silver. See here:

Pay attention how the surface melts to create the pattern. When done, the sheet can be worked as usual.

Re: A mid-century Finnish samorodok glasses case
Precious metals appear in their natural form like this (e.g. gold nuggets with uneven surface). The technique to create this effect is quite easy; you take a sheet of silver and heat it with the jeweler`s torch slightly beyond red colour. The surface will start wrinkling. It requires some skill, tho...

There was Solomon Schonberg, a goldsmith, in London at the time.
But without full set of marks it`s difficult to tell. Every link is marked to ensure the duty was paid on full length of the chain.

Hi,
It is 9 karat gold, i.e. 37.5% gold in the alloy; therefore number 9 and then 375 in the mark.
More likely American than British.

Re: Glass with silver
Uncommon combination of cut glass insert and Russian trompe-l'œil podstakanik. There are several issues: 1.Do marks on the insert match the marks on podstakanik ? 2.Applying marks on silver rim over glass is not possible unless one brakes the glass; on the other hand, it`s possible to detach the sil...

Repeated 84 in Persian alphabet indicating .840 fineness. There is no maker`s mark.
Number 4 is distinctive for Persian alphabet, i.e. it`s different from Arabic, therefore attribution for Iran.

Re: Clarifications on the color of the silver alloy
Old silver alloys were more complex in composition with traces of several metals and they must have varied a lot depending on the site of ore melting. That could be the first reason of different color. The second reason is environment where the item is kept; polluted air, humidity and acidity may pr...
