Re: Restaurantware Suppliers In Silverwares

Washington State records of corporations operating there show Dohrman Hotel Supply (San Fran. based) working in 1918. In addition, Brodie Hotel Supply (c.1969-1980's) becomes Brodie/Dohrmann through aquisitions over time...sells out to S. E. Rykoff. (Brodie silverware can be back-marked with their n...

Just to start, Larry R. Paul's ever-expanding data base of Hotels (china services research, but helpful): http://larryrpaul.com

Big hotels had numerous dining venues (often changing) and multiple services for them. Banquet services sometimes get an entirely separate line.

Re: Northwest Silverware Manufacturing Company?

If I read that full report right, he should go back to Providence in 1872 which is consistent with the Chicago Fire being October 1871. Seems a good indication the company ceased operations as previously noted. A great story to go with a great find! And a new mark on the map.

Re: Northwest Silverware Manufacturing Company?

Best of luck. Sure would be nice if you can establish the origin. Pittsburgh, Chicago, & San Francisco are only a few of the big conflagrations that make local historical documentation problematic. Filling in the gaps is always worthwhile. If you can add any more photos for the record, please do...

Re: Durgin Military Silver?

Gorham is a likely yes, for at least plated wares and maybe sterling. Though Wallace and the components of International turn up more often as makers marks, Gorham did produce naval related services at least as early as the 1890's. The army related transport service (ships) began to order topmarked ...

Re: Durgin Military Silver?

And in this thread, Gorham is misleading as it was a Durgin piece...page 2 reveals at least on jeweler who may have had naval clientele by location, so military inscriptions on non-government ordered items could have gone through a jeweler. Units did have budgets for special things (china, glass, si...

Re: Durgin Military Silver?

This would be a "marks" query which could be moved after posting a photo. But since it's not new, searching "Durgin codes" will reveal the answer...your "M" is likely a weight code for "Massive". A reference thread: http://925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23...

Baker-Manchester Un-identified: BMU-1

One of a group of as yet un-named patterns by Baker-Manchester Manufacturing Company of Providence Rhode Island. In lieu of an orderly system, I'm going to name this BMU-1 until we have a real identification. In this case, the bowl is gold-washed back and front to the top of the first design element...

This is the mark of Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. that was introduced to sterling flatware in 1895. With absorption of that firm into International Silver Company in 1898, the mark was continued in use for twenty more years. Normally, providing that we don't have a cut-off date for a pattern, we w...

Ray & Monroe Silver Company (s)

I see in a listing of flatware of the same pattern, maker #1 is Monroe Silver Company while maker #2 is Ray Silver Company. Ray is known to be a subsidiary of Rockford Silverplate. Is there any evidence that may show Monroe to also be a Rockford related organization?
