Re: arabic Necklace - origin and age?

Hi pinksteel, Yeah, I gotta admit that this whole region is confusing when it comes to marks. Egypt and Iran used a very similar standard/city mark format. Admittedly, the numbers seen on this piece of jewelry are identical with Iranian 800 (^''), but Egypt also used the same ...

Re: Persian Silver Bowl, please help with marks and ID

... of the silver. Beware though, this is NOT a guarantee mark as it is in Europe- plenty of plate and low grade silver is deceptively marked 84 in Iran. Your bowl looks like silver, but the mark doesn't prove it. For what it's worth I think your bowl is mid or even late 20th century, but the work ...

Re: Tabriz/Persian Silverwork, late 1960s

Impossible to speculate. Could well be plate. In Iran marks mean little or nothing- they are not a guarantee of purity, and are often totally deceptive.

Tabriz/Persian Silverwork, late 1960s

This tea and coffee service was made in Tabriz, Iran in the late 1960s. It has the marking VIGE and something else on the bottom. Information on type of silver content would be appreciated. http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o492/dewellman1/Silvermark.jpg ...

Re: Iranian mark? maker?

I should also note that while the 84 mark is denoting the purity of silver, in Iran this is absolutely NOT a guarantee of fineness! It isn't unheard of for them to mark plate with 84! Naughty!

Hello,

This piece looks molre Isfahani from Iran. It has the Arabic numerals 84 and the name of the maker which is unclear. This workmanship is Iranian.

... It is the boiling point ;-). Nonetheless, isn't there some oriental outlook on the strainer? I don't think it is European silver but how about Iran or....? They have used this 84-marking. I'm only guessing now. Unfamiliar silver marking to me. However, 84 has been used as silver fineness mark ...

Re: Iraq or Iran , Assistance Required on Unknown marks

Dear dartsil, These marks are indeed Egyptian as identified by the lotus blossom in the center box. The marks have been polished so well that the details of the hallmarks are somewhat lost. The left box may be showing a 9 and 0 which would be 90% silver fineness. The detail above the fineness would ...

Ewer from Iran?

From what I saw already, I think this is from Iran but does anyone know where is from and what the Hallmark indicates? There is a Hallmark on the handle and under the spout. I do not think it is silver.
