Tongs marked JS

Just bought a pair of tongs and was wondering if anyone recognized the mark? http://www.berkshire.net/~bathrick/Coin%20Silver%20Tongs%20-%20Mark.jpg Also, an idea of age and use would be appreciated. http://www.berkshire.net/~bathrick/Coin%20Silver%20Tongs%20-%20handle.jpg http://www.berkshire.net/~...

I'm working on that - my close up lenses disappeared last year and I've been planning on getting new ones. I'm also getting a photo tent.

Thanks for the help!

I T Serving Spoon

I just picked up a pair of serving spoons (first half of nineteenth century?). The spoons weigh about two ounces each. The bowl has a rounded tip and a wide drop. The shoulders are smooth with no projections and the tip of the handle rolls backwards. I have included a photo of the bowl, handle and m...

Loose handle on teapot

I have an older teapot with wooden disks in the handle - I'm told these are to keep the heat from getting to the handle - that have loosened. I suspect the wood has shrunk through age. Any ideas what I can do to tighten the handle so the pot can be used?

Tom, Unfortunately, someone stole my macro lenses, so the photos here will be blurry. http://www.berkshire.net/~bathrick/Sheffield%20Plate/Side%20View.jpg This is a side view of the teapot http://www.berkshire.net/~bathrick/Sheffield%20Plate/chasing.jpg A detail of the chasing http://www.berkshire.n...

Tom, While I would tend to agree with you (that was my first interpretation) but the large amount of hand work on the piece has me confused. The chasing definitely has the appearance of having been hand done. The screw and wing nut are definitely hand done - the threads of the screw are irregular, w...

Additional information on the above. Based on Henry Veitch's "Sheffield Plate, Its History, Manufacture and Art" as found in Google Books, the style of the teapot appears to be ca. 1780. The screw mentioned in the previous post was hand made as was the wing nut. In the same book, an Edward...

Sheffield Plate - Birmingham

I just purchased a teapot with the words "SHEFFIELD PLATE" on a disk under the lid which holds the wing nut that holds the bone knob on. Underneath the pot in a straight line are the letters G S L in various shields, the Birmingham anchor in a clipped corner rectangle and the letters EP or...
