i'm not so sure now that you mention it. The photo on this website shows a wreath with a sword for Watson and your photo has what looks like a candle in a wreath. Maybe someone with more experience can comment?

I meant that if you have one, you should post a photo of a piece of flatware that does not have a hollow handle. It would be easier to compare the pattern this way with photos on other websites. Most photo samples of flatware are taken from forks and spoons that usually have flat handles where most ...

Do all the pieces you own have hollow handles? It might be easier to identify if you post a photo of a flat piece.

I'm going to go out on a limb with this and make some guesses here. I would say that this Kiddush cup looks to me hallmarked twice. It seems to me that it came from Russia. It has a city mark, and the 84. I cant see the other characters, but is it possible that they are cryllic letters? The cup prob...

Dominick and Haff weighted basket

I have a Dominick and Haff basket. It's marked "Sterling". When it came I saw that the base was not open and that it was weighted inside. It is not marked weighted or reinforced. I find it hard to believe that the weight inside is made of silver. Has anyone seen a reputable company like D ...

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize that "84" was used in more than one context. Maybe that is why people have told me to beware of Russian silver, that the hallmarks may be fake. They were probably confusing it with French silverplate. I know of a precious metal scrapper that n...

I think the "84" hallmark means that it originated in either Russia, Latvia or Poland. More than that I can't figure out. The flatware seems quite contemporary to me, though I'm no expert and might be totally off course.
