Re: Dresden Silver Plate?

I want to be very careful, not shooting too far. But the cap looks like a "Kurfürstenhut" (Electors hat), and the Initials "FA" fits for the electors of Saxony. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rulers_of_Saxony Theo, which date would you assign to this plate? If it...

Re: c1853 Prague Snuff Box

Hi

Just to reduce your expectation a bit. The crown is a common Nobility crown for lower Nobility.
See here the Wikipedia Article in German:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelskrone

see also the English aricle on coronets:

So everyday Nobility...

Re: Help appreciated with a silver gilt cup

I was in London this summer, and of course visited the London Silver Vaults. On a pair of candle sticks I noticed this very same mark, too. It was together with a "G" mark the dealer attributed to Sank Gallen, Switzerland. Unfortunately I had no decent camera with me, so no picture taken. ...

Re: Art Nouveau German Silver Vase

Hi and welcome to the forum Cool item, nice find. It seems the German marks were applied before the item was completly finished, so from forming the metal after marking they are disoriented and stretched. I agree with you, there is the crown and the moon sickle. After this I see an 8 and a 0 which w...

Re: Coin or Continental? Large serving spoon and soup ladle

Your welcome

I was on the same webpage yesterday, focussing on Northern Italy, but also looking in the Napels section. However, I did not notice the mark yesterday. But yes, you have a winner! Congratulation for successfully localizing and dating the item.

Hi and welcome to the formum I mainly reply to bump your post on the top so other formum members may notice and contribute. Your problem is a hard one. When you search for a mark, you usually start with a feeling where the piece could come from. Going for yours, my feelings tell me they are from aro...

Re: Looking for more information on possible pre-1789 silver gravy boat

Hi
I thought these are seven different busts, so seven different people. To identify this single persons profile is difficult, also a lot of wear. But seeing all busts we may get a clue. From what I see late 17th century fashion and hairdress.

Hi

can you post close ups of the 7 busts? Then we can try to identify them.

Asking Theo:

Do you think it has a relation to Werher in Westphalia? Werther is not in Rosenberg, but what do you think of the coat of arms?

Re: Is this a spoon from Hanau?

Hi Theo

I was waiting for your reply, thank you. I was rather sure it is German, but you point to the Netherlands. This makes the "E" as a date letter possible.
Do you have any guess on the date?
Again, thank you very much.

Trev, can you move my post to the Dutch section?

Is this a spoon from Hanau?

Dear friends ist this a spoon from Hanau? I did not find an exact match for the town mark, but it looks similar. And who is the maker? Is the "E" a date letter? Thank you for your suggestions. Jörg http://abload.de/img/stempel159k43.jpg http://abload.de/img/stempel2utksc.jpg http://abload....

How much restoring on 19th Century Silver?

Hi I found this pile of silver put aside for melting. It was sorted out because it had no 800 or higher numerical mark. So re-sell is difficult. Good for me, but sad to see that the new items are re-sold, while the old stuff is molten. I want your opinion on restoring. The items are from 1780 to 187...

Re: What is the function of this lever?

Hi Trev and Silvery How would the protection work? I was exercising with the knive and the fork yesterday. Holding the fork reversed in the left hand and the knive in the right, playing cutting a roast. The lever clapped out, pointing to the right, the knive. Honestly, I did not see how this lever p...
