Is this a spoon from Bremen?

Hi I got this spoon yesterday and I am wondering if it is Bremen? And who is the maker and the approximate date. Any help is welcome. Thank you, Jörg http://abload.de/img/3w3r1w.jpg http://abload.de/img/1jrqxm.jpg http://abload.de/img/240qb1.jpg http://abload.de/img/4bjqa9.jpg

Re: Sterling Silver Standards in Norway?

Reading this I has a lot of thoughts. I hope I am not increasing confusion. First, the original question of the Definition of stering in Norway is finished, 830 is not Sterling. But we deal with feelings, human nature and pride. What do you want from the expert? Do you want him to confess "I wa...

Re: Keychain

Check out the scene shown. We see a catholic confimation spend by a bishop. Look at the clothing style. Typical mid 19h. This means the item cannot be older, only contemporary or younger.

Re: Help for hallmarks

Hi and welcome to the forum

A. Collet SA was a retailer in Geneva, Switzerland. Active from approx. 1890 onwards.
800 indicated silver alloy with a silver Content of 80%. So "massive silver", not silver plate

Re: Old Prussian Snuff Box - Need help dating

Do not overdo it, five peaks, nobility crown, lowest rank of nobility. No prince, no royal family.
Check the German Wikipedia.
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rangkrone

the corresponding English page is not so precise on the German crowns.

Hi,
It is Switzerland, city of Murten
Maker is Jakob Höniges, (1787-1863),
The catalog "Weltliches Silber 2" from the Swiss Federal Museum dates this mark to approx. 1820

Re: Ladle Type? Marks? Monogram?

Hi As Trev points out, it is from Jezler, city of Schaffhausen in Swizerland. They are still in business, check their website: http://www.jezler.ch They produced in .750 finess until about 1880, afterwards they used .800 alloy. Your marking is typical for a period around 1870, maybe between 1860 and...

Re: do you know when it was made?

Hi There is not much hope to pin the date much further down than indicated by Steve. Check the Jezler Website, their catalogue: http://www.jezler.ch/pdf/Jezler_Besteck_RZ.pdf The pattern of your items is "Pricess". This pattern was introduced in 1938. Jezler stopped producing items in the ...

Re: Found in the family silver: 12 loth spoon, poss. Hanau City before 1888

Hi Anne Sorry, my mistake. The silversmith name is a left over from me compiling the post. I do not have a makers identified. Without makers mark this is not possible. However, I was aussuming a date between 1800 and 1830. The spoon has 19th century appearance, Looks too modern for being made before...

Re: Found in the family silver: 12 loth spoon, poss. Hanau City before 1888

Hi and welcome to the forum. In the course of time participating in the forum you will learn the specialist for 19th century German silver is Theoderich . He has his reference website, the link is here: http://silberpunze.freehost.ag/index.php Open it, put Hanau in the search query and see the resul...

Re: About restoration

Even if it is a valuable piece, cleaning is a normal process and should be done. Just search this forum on the many posts on cleaning silver. As long as you do not use a mechanical tool, and not use any hard or metal objets in the cleaning there is no danger. Do it by hand, using a silver cleaner an...

Re: About restoration

Hi As always, the right suggestion depends on a lot of parameters. Is it silver or silverplated? When was it made and who is the maker? Is it just a nice piece for you or does it bear a sentimental value? What do you want to use it for? I see some dents below the monogram, but generally the piece do...

Re: Dresden 1854 spoon with Fürstenhut, who was the owner?

Hi Nobilityhouse and Trev
I spent time searching for additional Mathildes, without success. However, Trev, your reasoning makes sense. I think we can close the case and remain as nobilityhouse stated: this spoon cannot be identified with absolute certainty.

Re: Dresden 1854 spoon with Fürstenhut, who was the owner?

Dear Nobilityhouse Thank you for your thoughts. So you confirm it is a "Fürstenhut" for non ruling houses. I was considering this very Mathilde of Saxony, too. But later ruled it out. Here my (unstructured) reasoning: The spoon was made in 1854. She was born in 1863. The spoon is light and...

Dresden 1854 spoon with Fürstenhut, who was the owner?

Hi I have this very small simple spoon for a while now. It is from Dresden, made by I.E. Richter in 1854. Identified thanks to Theoderich's (Theo) great "Silberpunzen" page. Just 8-9 grams weight. It bears a "Fürstenhut" (prince's hat). According German Wikipedia such a hat was u...

Re: Help appreciated with a silver gilt cup

Hi I saw your post, just it does not simplify the case. These are the facts: These are pseudomarks. When presented, the cup was new. Interpretation: I would not bother too much on the "antique" attibuted to it. I can also mean "in an antique style". I wonder how the cup was impor...

Re: Dresden Silver Plate?

Hi Can you post the weight of the plate? I am curious if the engraved weigth is gross or fine silver weight. Such sets were not only used and representative, they were also currency reserve. In time of need such sets were quickly coined. From this point putting the weight on the plate makes sense, a...
