Hi,

I would weigh the whole ring and then calculate the weight of the ring, as that is probably not so difficult to approximate (you need to know the karat weight of course).
Then detuct one from the other to get the approx. weight of the nugget.

Hi,

Yes it is French.
The crab is the mark for 0.800 silver on small items.
It is in use from 1962.

Hi,

It could very well be that everyone is quoting from the same unreliable source, but the gimic idea is also plausible.

Hi,

Although silver is soft, if you hammer it down it can get pretty hard. Surely hard enough to cut through a cucumber.

Hi, Sounds like a novelty indeed, usually you would expect a slicer for that. About the lettuce; the silver and the lettuce will react chemically to a poison (atleast when the silver gets "chipped" off the silver fork by the knife). That is the reason why etiquette dictates one should neve...

Hi,

Could it be used to divide a hen or some other cooked bird?
Otherwise it looks like a tool Lorena Bobbitt would use.

Hi, There are many possibilities. When I was an apprentice, I needed to do something similar for Christie's. A guy was putting silver dishes up for auction and didn't want his family to know. They asked us if we could do something with the engraved family crests. Instead of erasing the crests, I mad...

Hi,

I'm not an expert on heraldry, but this seems to be from a prince (5 leafs above the 6 spoked wheel) The wheel is common for some cities as Wageningen in the Netherlands (very rare), Russia an Germany.

I don't think this is Dutch.

Hi,

The crowned N of 1948 was used from July 1st and was to celebrate the 50th year of Wilhelmina's reign. Later that year she stepped down in favour of her daughter Juliana.
According to Voet this crown was suggested by Citroen.

Hi,

The rococo description covers it mostly, but maybe the most distinguishing between baroque (Louis XIV) and late baroque (aka rococo, aka Louis XV) is the asymmetry of the ornaments.

Hi,

Yes that show has run here for several years aswell.
As a small side question: there was a show on the BBC about ± 10 years ago where there was a celebrity panel whom were given a mystery object that they needed to describe.
Does anyone recall what that show was named?

Hi,

I'm not sure if I would call that a typical native American piece.
The two tribes most notable for turquoise jewellery are the Navaho and the Zuni.
