Hi Qrt.S Thank you. Only some remarks about silver items of thin gauge. Most of the time you can see a impression mark on the back of the silver plate, where they hallmarked the front of the silver plate. And yes most of the time the impression mark is visible but smooth. I agree on heavier gauged s...

St.Petersburg 1879

Hi Qrt.S Thank you and according to my wife and children I make a lot of mistakes without admitting doing so. Back to the filigree. Could it be that filigree work has been considered hard to hallmark past? I have seen many filigree items without hallmarks. Due to what I think the absence of a suitab...

Dear Qrt. S Thank you for your reply. With due respect please have an other look at ’ Sazikov’. This time at the hand of a new picture. I clearly stated contributed to Sazikov. There never has been or will be a letter Latin S in the Cyrillic Sazikov mark. We are clearly looking at what I call the fi...

German rococo silver snuff box maker's mark IP

Hello Theoderich an Patrick Thank you very much. The maker's mark is IP. For me it looks more like a rearing horse. However I do not have Marc Rosenberg volume III to check out Stuttgart. The maker's mark IP and city mark are on this picture: http://d.imagehost.org/view/0421/German_silver_snuff_box_...

German rococo silver snuff box maker's mark IP

Could it be a rearing horse instead of a running horse? Or Schwäbisch Gmünd used from 1720-1788 see Marc Rosenberg volume II # 2178 and # 2179. Appreciate an expert opinion. Thanks.

Hello JAKJO Great work!! Thank you very much again you teach me’ how to look at hall marks’. I believe it could be G. over 28 for Dirk Hendrik Greup Sr. He worked in Schoonhoven 1837-1864 see Netherlands Responsibility marks #6254. http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv301/JAKJO/G28.jpg Kind Regards,...

This Lodderein box is made in the Netherlands. Date letter T for 1853. However on the left we clearly can see a mark ‘GG Frog? G’. This mark is not in my...

Gold snuff box / tabatiere and the hallmarks

After consulting a paid 'expert on hallmarks' I can say we are looking at 'pseudo marks'. I never realized the 'pseudo marks' were used on gold items as well. My question could someone determine if the box is made by a Hanau or other German gold/silver smith. I checked the 925-1000 Hanau information...

Gold snuff box / tabatiere and its hallmarks

Hello Jakjo, Thank you very much for your prompt and accurate reply. I do agree and most of us were deceived by de letter “V” because the book “Gold stempel aus aller Welt” by Jan Divis points us to Valdemarsvik. The engine turning technique is an old technique. In the 1700’s it was adopted for meta...
