Poinçonné d'une fleur de lys

Hi Could one of the French experts please tell me more about the hallmark on the right side of the picture? Could it be, as claimed by an Auction house, a genuine ‘Poinçonné d'une fleur de lys’used 1717-1722. If so why is this in combination with the ‘crabmark’ on the left. Or is the 'fleur de lys...

Hello Trev & Tom

Thanks for the useful information. For whatever it may be worth. I can add the set has been bought in the U.S.A / California. As I understand, give or take a foil, it could be for Levy or for Baillie-Gage. I like it

Unknown family crest

Dear all

Thank you for the overwhelming response. As far as I can tell we are looking at a sheep or ram, with a trefoil under one hoof, and another held in its mouth. I appreciate your feedback.

Dear Grandmaa After comparing your picture of the maker’s mark with the maker’s mark in the book Netherland’s Responsibility marks from 1797. I come to the conclusion it is not made in the Netherland’s after 1797. Unless the spoon has any other Dutch duty, office or standards mark, it will be diffic...

Dear Postnikov, Thank you very much! What I learned so far: Russian silver is popular and expensive, thus fakes are flooding the market, to satisfy the greedy mobs. Could we trust high end retailers or auction houses? Answer no they selling fakes to. Are fakes an instant problem? Perhaps not if we b...

Hi Postnikov, You got me here. I am flabbergasted. The cigarette case is authentic Russian or Indian? You say the Postnikov mark is fake and the measurements (sizes) of the case are not authentic, to what I assume, compared with normal/ordinary Russian cases. Perhaps you mean to say the hallmarks ar...

Hi Qrt.S and Postnikov, Herewith the final report I have just received about the “beautiful” filigree basket. The basket, most probably, has been made in Kutch (Cutch), India c.1900. Silversmiths of Kutch were renowned for their enamel and filigree work on silver and gold ornaments and articles. Pie...

Hi Stecci,

The anchor on your piece looks more as a ‘flower’ to me. It is lacking the cross bar under the eye of the anchor.

Hi Jakjo,

According Netherlands'Responsibility marks from 1797: Gebroeders Roelfsema '3 over GR ' and 'R over 6' and 'R6.'
In my book no mention about '2 over T'
If the piece does not show any valid silver assay mark ... hhmmm.

Hi Stecci, I believe it could be maker's mark 'JH 185' for Jan Bonnes Hoogmei, located in the city of Leeuwarden and registered from 1847-1860. I am not 100% sure so please check the two letters and the number. On the back of the spoon the 'sword' mark with export key. 'Sword' standard mark for smal...

Hi Stecci,

Don't believe those are Dutch hallmarks for silver. Are you sure the Salière is made from silver? Perhaps it's silver plated.
