Herewith two figural maker's mark as example for Amsterdam; one depicting a fisherman with his fishing rod or peur; is a hook less line, usually connected to a stick, to hold a clump of worms on a length of wool. This type of tackle is used for specialised eel fishing. https://imagizer.imageshack.co...

Re: Small Dutch Peppermint Box - Need Help with Makers' Mark

Your images are too small. Try to make a couple of new clear enhanced images of the maker's mark and Minerva head. Use a good digital camera, macro function.

Re: Small Dutch Peppermint Box - Need Help with Makers' Mark

Hi, welcome to the forum. Please show us a couple of clear enhanced images of the Minerva head and the maker's mark. Without the regional assay office letter and unclear maker's mark we only can guess. What's the value of a guess? The year letter, gothic G, indeed for 1891. The British importer Lewi...

Hi Martin, Your welcome. However always show all relevant images up front! Re: Perfume Flask Marks

Hi Martin, Be so kind to show some more images, both sides of the bottle. It is indeed a perfume or eau de cologne bottle. It is a perfume/scent bottle in the shape of a mandolin or lute. What we see is the back. Do you also have the front? It opens at the end; hinge there, the cork is missing. It i...

Re: Perfume Flask Marks

The bottle is 18 cm long, the widened neck mouth with wide hinged cap, perhaps not for perfume. Does it have an inner stopper and is the flask gilded inside? After some research. To me the sword mark on your flask appears to be the Dutch sword mark for small silver items. The Belgian sword has two i...

Hi Martin, a little bit more information to read through; To my knowledge erasing, destroying of (foreign) invalid hallmarks in the Netherlands and Belgium was not a common practise. I have noticed it on Imperial Russian silver where the old hallmarks of the Tsar era were destroyed/erased and replac...
