Re: HELP! Trying to find out where they are from

The square building on the one vessel is the Kaaba in Mecca Immediately above it is written in Arabic "Makkah Muazzama" - glorious Mecca. This looks like a memento from Saudi Arabia- perhaps from the Hajj or Umra. I expect that the item was made in India or Pakistan. The script in the roun...

Re: Hallmarks on Persian silver item

An almost identical mark is described on another silver site as:

"marked by parvaresh( i think reza parvaresh)
parvaresh is greatest family in Isfahan in making handcrafted silver."

If you would like the link, pls pm me

Re: Please help to identify country of origin

The language on the band is Turkish.

I believe that Bassoy, Okan, Kaplongi and Gurtunca are personal names. Bingol is the name of both a Turkish city and a province.

It may be that the band was added so I don't know if the item is Turkish.

Hope this helps

Re: niello cup. help requested for an i.d. and marks

The word in the third image from the top is "ofiyet" (modern Turkish spelling) which means "good health" or "bon appetit"

Definitely more secular than sacred.

If I figure out the other word, I will post.

Re: niello cup. help requested for an i.d. and marks

The Ottoman script on the base reads - Van - a city in eastern Turkey.

Prior to WWI it had a sizeable Armenian population.

I am sure the other stamp with non Roman letters is Armenian.

Don't understand the inscriptions on the side of the vessel.

I believe this is called a hirz (or hirtz) in Arabic - likely from Yemen or Oman.

Often worn suspended from a necklace.

Re: flummoxed by these marks

This is Van, a city in eastern Turkey. Ottoman Turkish script is much like Arabic. The other script is likely Armenian. Van had a significant Armenian population in the 1800s.

Pat,

It is Moroccan. The lower line says Dar al Ghazal, Fas or House of the Gazelle, Fes. Can't make out the full upper line but the middle word is Saeed.

Hope this is helpful.

Damon
