Hi Jcm-

I do not know who IC is, but the stone looks like it may be natural sleeping beauty turquoise, from Sleeping Beauty Mountain Arizona. I do not know for sure though, It is a very nice piece.

Good Luck-

Hello Pat-

I noticed that there is one mark that looks like Joseph Rodgers and sons, which is (not sure what to call it) a star burst. Did John Round and sons, and Joseph Rodgers, merge at one time? Or is the star burst a meaning of something else?

Hi Pat- I agree 100%, just the thought of the hands that may have touched an item hundreds of years ago is intriguing. I do family genealogy and if I would be able to find an item that was from my ancestors, it would not matter if it were made of wood, it would become one of the most valuable things...

Hi Ian- I am new to this also, but I think it is "Thomas Aston & William Aston", registered Birmingham 6 August 1857, the date letter on yours looks like a "K" ? and with the shape of the cartouche would date it to 1859? Could be one of the later K's also. here is the Birming...

Himan- I googled "carving fork with guard" and they are out there. The difference is that yours protrudes from the side and the ones I have found protrude from the back. Could this be due to regional customs and how the fork is held? I do not know, but Cheryls explanation is plausable to m...

Cheryl-

That is what I thought too, but it is movable and seems a bit to large for a safety guard; why would it be movable?

Hi man! I do not know for sure but does the lever move the second tine up between the first and third? If it does, perhaps it is meant to pinch a thin slice of meat, such as a thin slice of turkey. It would then make sense to me; a person could start the slice with the knife and then hold on to it w...

Hi Cristalsnow- Looks like pewter to me also, but do not think that this takes away from it's importance. In fact pewter artists can be even harder to collect, because it was more often likely to be melted down and used again. There are many sites that may be able to help in identifying this maker, ...

There are three more of them in the Museum of Fine Arts, if you would like to take a look. The engraving on each is just as impressive.
