Re: Genuine Judiaca travel candlesticks?

Hi Asti and all, The youtube-video´s are very interesting. Thank you. I am - to gether with the remarks of Zolotnik, Dad and Juke - convinved now that the engraving on the travel chamber sticks is not authentic. And yes, I made a lot of mistakes, also with other pieces I bought. I must admit, with ...

Re: Genuine Judiaca travel candlesticks?

Hi Asti, What do you mean by "was a machine"? Every silversmith used (and uses) some sort of a machine. He doesn't make his silverwork just by hand. You mean a machine after 1875? Maybe a machine out of 1935 to make it look like 1875? That doesn't make sense. Or maybe you mean a machine ou...

Re: Portugese maker(s) of these chamber sticks?

Hi Qrt.S, You are right. I am a collector, my photo- and computerskills could be better. Finally I managed to compress photo's for the forum in stead of making just a link, but I agree that this is not the way to present a case. Other presentations are a lot better. I will do my best to improve it. ...

Re: Genuine Judiaca travel candlesticks?

Hi Juke, These candlesticks are well made and heavy. A lot of work was spend on them. Why should a silversmith, with good skills, make a forgery of an object out of 1875? In the Netherlands and Germany in those days (some) silversmiths made forgeries, but then they made forgeries of objects out of t...

Re: Genuine wodkacup?

Hi Child, Thank you. So, do I understand you right: you do agree with Dad? He said: MБ - Borovshchikov Michail (1755-1768) - assaymaster. Sacred George - city mark of Moscow 176(*) (Postnikova: № 1972-1980. But, what about the strange CC mark? It does not look good to me. Like it was not punched....

Portugese maker(s) of these big candelabra's?

Hi, These big candelabra's match in a way: same sort of form, same hight, same number of candles, etc. But they are not a pair. They come from different auctions in different periods. I already had one (provenance Christies Amsterdam) and then I met the other one at another auction (Vendu Rotterdam)...

Re: Help w identifing of mark on silverplate tea pot?

Hi, The oval of this trademark is not positioned straight above the text "Old Sheffield ..." So, I did not look close enough because I assumed that it was a sort of controlmark that was put on the silverplate teaservice later than the manifacturingdate. But GJ169 is right. This is not the ...

Re: Purpose of a French (medical?) tool?

Hi Zilver2, Thank you. I missed that mark. It is under number 00667 in my own book: Dictionnaire des poincons de fabricants d'ouvrages d'or et d'argent, Paris 1838-1875. Cahiers de l'nventaire 1994. ISBN 2-11-081343-1. I think I missed it because the mark the way I saw it is vertical and the mark in...

Re: Help w identifing of mark on silverplate tea pot?

Hi gj169, The swan is a French mark, "le signe" in use from 1-7-1893 for watchboxes and used till 1970 for silverware from out of France. It was also used for silverware from auctions and if the provenance is not clear. As far as I know it was not ment to be stamped on silverplate. So in m...
