Susan, the British Registry is similar to the US Patent Office. If you go to the Main Site ~ Home Page and look at the drop down menu under "Resources," you'll see a link for British Registry Dates. Your Rd No 564313 (if I'm seeing it right) indicates that the pattern was registered someti...

Re: Help on maker for stlering spoon

This may be the mark of G. H. French & Co. of North Attleboro, Massachusetts. See two sites:

Oh dear, now that I see it in big print, it seems I rushed to judgment: one less ripple along the top and the M central point doesn't come to the bottom. Kit

Jackson's, p. 198, has an image that seems a perfect match for Jacob Marsh; date is an early 1744, though. Kit

Re: Is there any way to date this?

Replacements, Ltd. states the pattern was in production from 1921 to 1996. I'm not aware of any way to determine in which exact year a certain flatware piece was manufactured. Perhaps someone else will reply if there is one. Kit

You can see the trademark for Marius Hammer (an M over a Hammer) on the following page:

Someone else will have to let us know whether he has used other marks.

I took a little break today and went to Replacements.com and searched its Gorham line. Sorry, no match to be found; however, there are some patterns for which there are no pictures.

Hopefully, someone with more expertise will be along to help you out.

Be happy and safe in 2007.

John, I'm supposing that because the spoon has no marks for silver, such as "Sterling" or "925," your post was moved to a forum where it's likely to reach the appropriately knowledgeable responders.

"Handwrought" literally means that an object was made by hand rather than by machine. Additionally, the word suggests that the object was unique rather than mass-produced. The early 20th century Arts and Crafts Movement gave the word "handwrought" a particular association, but th...

While neither time nor place of manufacture can be assured about your piece, Elizur G. Webster went into partnership with his son, Fred H. Webster, in 1886, forming E. G. Not much to offer other than the date of your piece is probably after 1923. From 1893 to 1923, all imports to the US were required to be identified by country of origin - for example, ENGLAND - and fully marked from 1923 on - MADE IN ENGLAND.

No help for the rest of your question. Sorry.
