I have a sugar shovel with identical makers mark, dated 1870. I have seen no makers mark recorded similar to this one because the S is so obviously smaller than the J, so it is still listed by me as maker unknown. The following is offered in comment on makers you mention I would discount John Smyth ...

Assumptions (1) that the coffee pot has mark for former Austro-hungarian Empire 1872 - 1922 because the punch outline is lobed with a letter. (2) If the letter is an A in top left hand lobe then the A should be for Vienna. There should be a number 1 in the lobe on the opposite side ie top right hand...

From looking at the marks, it appears as though the top mark (on the coffee pot) has a letter or number in the top left hand lobe, whilst the finial mark has a mark in the bottom left hand corner. Can you confirm this using a magnifying glass?

London Maker 1836 IH

Have a pair of Sugar Tongs London 1836 with the maker IH or HI in an oval punch mark. I tend to favour IH as being the way up. Would this be John Harris or are there other possibilities. Any information would be appreciated.

An alternative to Samuel Beere would be Stephen Bergin. James Moore is not known to have partnered Samuel Beere, also the marks I have seen attributed to James Moore have been I.M and J.M with the dot central between the two letters. If the mark on the fruit knife is SB then this could be Stephen Be...

I am curious about the "x" and "y" under the W & H flag trade mark. Could this be the Sheffield year marks for 1915 and 1916?

Whilst I do not know who RWB is, I have items with this mark assayed in London and have seen pieces dating around the period 1930's - 1960's with this mark, all retailed by Harrods. Auction catalogues and silver retailer descriptions have not given a makers name. Maybe contact with Harrods will supp...

I would be interested in knowing what the article is? I keep looking at the right hand mark which you note as Britannia and I cannot connect Britannia to the poor image on my screen. It looks more like a castle. If the mark is Britannia, this British Standard was introduced in 1697, and I understand...

Another with limited Irish silver knowledge, and without seeing the actual marks, therefor assuming what these marks are. Daniel Egan probably made the piece. As far as I am aware the Clarke and West would be John Clarke and Jacob West who were wholesalers and I believe date after 1802 The WEST mark...

I believe the jug is a hot water jug since the handle looks as though it is fitted with insulating discs. Suggestions for obtaining approximate age would be finding out when "Made in England" was put on items - I heard at one time this was in the 1920's and when did James Deakin cease work...

I have been trying to decide whether the silver standard mark in the photo is 84 or 94. If it is 84 which is the most likely, then it is 87.5% silver. If it is 94 then it would be 98% silver.

I believe the super A in the shield will be the quality of the plate. the most common one I have seen is Super A1. The maker frequently is found in a shield at the other end of the EPNS mark.
