As an alternative - to me the 2nd mark illusion is the Brittania mark.
Is there any chance that the third mark could be a Harp Crowned rather than "gt", which then make Hibernia the logical mark.

The top mark is the British Registry Design mark. You can check this at British registry date numbers this site. http://www.925-1000.com/registry.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This is not the manufacture date, but would not be earlier. The mark is table 2 but the year date lett...

Assuming the around 1770 date, I think that the IL mark is going to be difficult to put to a specific maker. The I central dot L could be one of John Laughlan, Senior., John Lloyd, Senior., or John Locker. may be others. There is an IL in a shaped mark attributed to a John Laughlan but does not have...

For interest: Roberts and Belk Lamp mark was also used on some sterling silver also there was a London sterling mark entered in 1906 which was still in use in 1957. This mark has a completely different "&" to that in use in the other assay offices including a rounded top and the lower ...

Have a look under British hallmarks on this site under Birmingham. Is it the 1857, 1858 set of marks.
The head, if it is the sovereigns head, would be the duty mark if it is British sterling silver

Kerangoumar. I think you are getting away from the point. In 1820 the Government Impost or Duty was based on weight of finished item. Using the method used above which is basically dividing duty in pence per troy oz. by what is basically a bullion price for silver per troy oz. and saying it is 90%, ...

I am a bit confused by all this mathematics (old age galloping on?). I am trying to understand how dividing the duty (on 1 ounce of the silver articles assayed weight) in coinage of the realm (18 pennies or "d") by its troy weight of 20 pennyweight (dwt) which is 1 ounce, and saying it is ...

The 1926 L is is not quite vertical with a hook shape curve to the right on the bottom
My computer skills are not up to copy marks from the book to the site but I am sure somebody will do this to make it clearer.
