Re: Left-facing Cannon mark on silver platter

Hi - welcome to the forums. This cannon trademark is Charles S. Green & Co. - George Wilkin's cannon is different (seen at bottom of second image). https://i.postimg.cc/fWCSB9Gx/cannon-mark-charles-s-green-1981-1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/8P350Btr/cannon-mark-wilkinelectroplatemark-1879ad-Illus-G...

Re: International Silver Co. - Vision Pattern

Here is the 1961 patent for the 'Vision' pattern: https://i.postimg.cc/XYC6vFmg/pearson-vision-patent-d191010-1.jpg This is my Ronald Hayes Pearson salt with spoon, which shows a similarity in design - I also have the same salt (no spoon) in a different colorway, signed 'PRIP-PEARSON', from Pearson'...

Please post the pre 1910 H.F. Wichmann copyright record that you say must be considered the original source of this spoon design.

Re: Sterling wine taster or salt cellar ???! ID Help!

Personally, would be very difficult for me to reach the "conclusion that H.F. Wichmann most likely knew a Hawaiian silversmith who was trained in the Japanese form of the open-work bon-bon spoon and was the originator of this form" based on what you've cited and theorized. Regarding the H....

In answer to your posts concerning the editing out the name of the auction site, you were not 'singled out', I've done the same many times, and unless Trev tells me to stop, will continue to do so. There was simply no point in advertising a commercial site - the search terms you quoted were left int...

Re: Sterling wine taster or salt cellar ???! ID Help!

I'm a bit confused by suggestion of a "Hawaiian source" - I'd noted that the retailers of both spoons were coincidentally founded in the same year only to indicate it would be unlikely the spoons would predate 1912, since they both seem to only be found with their respective retailer stamp...

Re: Sterling wine taster or salt cellar ???! ID Help!

Have only seen the Shreve, Treat & Eacret San Francisco Poppy bon-bon spoon attributed to Gorham on a site with quite a few errors (though some have been corrected over the years) - Rainwater's 'American Spoons' shows an extremely similar Honolulu Hibiscus bon-bon spoon copyrighted by Hawaiian j...

Re: Sterling wine taster or salt cellar ???! ID Help!

These are altered recasts, made from a San Francisco souvenir poppy motif bon-bon spoon sold by Shreve, Treat & Eacret in the 1910s-'20s, and were probably intended to be nut dishes. Yours show considerable porosity, an indication of less than well done casting - similar silverware was fairly co...

Hi - your piece is a bon-bon spoon rather than a sugar sifter (sugar would pour through those holes rather than sprinkle), the pattern is 'Louis XV', produced Canadian firms Birks and P.W. Ellis, as well as Roden Bros. (American maker Whiting Mfg. introduced 'Louis XV' in 1891, later also produced b...
