Re: Help with ID Black Starr Frost pattern 1894

Hi ~ welcome to the forums (good job on posting pics). Black, Starr & Frost were primarily retailers, your pattern is Dominick & Haff's 'Renaissance', introduced in 1894, and there is indeed a 'North Wind' type face - for future reference, any marks on a piece should be included, even if the...

Re: Schleswig-Holstein spoon w/red glass stone - HOG

Thank you so much, Theo. A quick search finds that you already have the mark - really do miss your site, any hope of it being back up in the near future?

And thanks, Silverly - was aware of the similarities in some Schleswig-Holstein marks...

Re: Schleswig-Holstein spoon w/red glass stone - HOG

Thanks for the effort, but seems extremely unlikely that this spoon was christening gift for a little girl in America - truthfully, my searches were focused on the shipping industry.

Hopefully one of our European members can come up with the maker...

Re: Possible bird with head facing right, letter A, & anchor—need help identifying maker

Hi ~ welcome to the forums. For future reference, a much more clear image of the mark is usually necessary, but I know this pattern well - it is Alvin's Orange Blossom (Old), introduced in 1905 - please look here for Alvin marks and an example of your pattern: http://www.925-1000.com/ax_alvin.html ~...

Schleswig-Holstein spoon w/red glass stone - HOG

Hoping to find the maker on this nice if well used spoon, just under 9" (22.8 cm), town mark appears to be Kiel or Schoenberg or thereabouts, and the maker 'HOG'. The pricked engraving looks to read, 'C.H.Bartram 1832.', thought it might possibly be a captain's spoon, the name seems English, an...

Hi - that's a common variant of the H.H. Curtis gryphon mark, don't believe that was ever a named or full-line pattern...

From the 1899 'Markham's Hand Book to French Hall Marks on Gold and Silver Plate' (information on 'plated goods' starts about halfway through the paragraph): https://s22.postimg.cc/do7ezn1y9/frenchplatersmarks1899_Hand_Bookto_French_Hall_Marks.jpg From Bradbury's 'History of Old Sheffield Plate' (19...

Hi ~ welcome to the forums.

This is a 'Dutch Reproduction' piece from around the 1920s, made by New York based E.G.Webster & Son:

Re: Gorham Rouen (1893) Scoopy Thingamajig

Wouldn't say cheese scoops are particularly common, but I've seen quite a few of them over the years - there have also been a good number produced fairly recently by modifying spoons (some done better than others), might poke around to investigate whether it's original or not...

Re: Spoon 4" Paper Lantern Finial

The stylized cherry blossom (sakura) bowls are definitely die-struck - they're pretty common, I have examples in coffee spoons, sippers, and salt spoons, with a wide variety of finials (charms on the sippers). Doubt many, if any, date earlier than post WWII, and believe the only Japanese manufacture...

Re: Need identification help!

Right off hand, no silversmiths, retailers or patterns named 'Archer' or 'Bowman' come to mind, so am going to guess that those suggestions were made as possible descriptive terms concerning the bow & arrow motif on the discs at the top. The pattern doesn't look familiar to me, and don't have al...
