Found c1859-78 Silverplate Mark to Add to Site

While researching this silver plated basket which was clearly marked "AJ Towner", I was able to identify the maker as Andrew J. Towner, although I haven't found him on any sites. His name was in a 1965 book (found on Google books), "The Museum", published by the Newark Museum Ass...

Re: Is this Austrian silver?

Thanks for the information. I never thought to look at the Hungarian marks. I am 95% sure it is WB since I have more pieces of this and I have looked at them through a loupe and I'm pretty sure it's WB without anything in between. The other 5% makes me think it could be WE. I doubt I will find out t...

Is this Austrian silver?

The mark says WB and has the Diana's head mark in a 6-sided shape with number 3. Is this .800 silver from 1867-72? There is no letter for a city. I am not sure I am interpreting the marks page correctly. Who is WB? Any chance of finding this out? Thanks so much! http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1201...

Re: Dutch silver picture frame with dolphin mark

Thanks so much for your reply. I did find other similar Dutch hand mirrors, too, so my guess about the original use of this item was correct. Is there any way you would recognize the other mark? That is truly the best photo I could get!

Dutch silver picture frame with dolphin mark

I was wondering if anyone has seen a picture frame like this? It has the dolphin mark and another illegible mark (which I will post). I assume it is Dutch from the 19th Century. It is very hard to get a photo of the mark other than the dolphin. I thought maybe someone would recognize it. I am really...

Is this definitely American? Marked Sterling

The only mark I can find on these tongs is "Sterling". Does that make it definitely American? Is there any other way to date or identify this piece? It seems like an Alphonse La Paglia type/style design. Hoping for any insight you can give me. Thanks! http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL2324/...

Thanks so much! Just wondering which mark this is? It doesn't seem to match the ones on this site.

Unidentified Mark on Sterling Ice Tongs

I can't find the ID for this mark and I don't even know how to characterize what the mark is a picture of! Does anyone recognize this? Copies of Sterling Flatware?

I have a question about this heavy (174 gms) sterling pie server. It looks like a copy of the Reed & Barton Love Disarmed pattern (a very poor one!). Was copying of popular patterns something that was done in the past? I am having a hard time understanding this piece. It is 11" long and the...

SH&Co. mark on 13 loth candlesticks

Has anyone seen this mark before? I find hardly any references to this maker. They appear on this set of candlesticks and kiddush cup, which is also dated 1855 on the plaque. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1201/4557023/22172500/373149143.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1201/4557023/22172500/3...

Unmarked HUGE embossed silver tray.

I have 2 of these very large trays. They are 23" long x 15" wide. They are very light - each weighs 2 lbs. 2 oz. I am sure they are solid silver (I can tell from the edge of the tray), probably 800 or another alloy. The problem is, I can't find marks anywhere on either tray. Is there any w...

I believe the mark on this is HE&Co. S. Is that Hawksworth, Eyre & Co? I haven't found the exact style of this mark for Hawksworth. Could it be someone else? How old do you think it is? Thanks! http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1201/4557023/22284840/370255449.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com...

Is this a mark for Dutch silver with an 830 silver content? I can find no other marks.

James Dixon cruet set BUT cruet tops are STERLING or?

The cruet tops on this James Dixon silverplated set have Birmingham sterling hallmarks for 1847 and 48. But the maker's marks are identified as Old Sheffield Plate in Bradbury's. Are they sterling or OSP? Thanks! http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1201/4557023/13858606/367769235.jpg http://pic20.pictu...

Hard to read mark on engraved sterling plate

I can't identify the mark on this plate. Was hoping someone would recognize it. There was probably a letter in the middle shield but it's not there any more. Thanks! Thanks! I, too, think that 1974 makes sense and Irish import marks definitely make sense! I think the initials may be W M & R.
