Re: The Continental Silver Co. and The Continental Silver Co. and the......

One additional item ... I have now found a commercial postcard publicising H. Sacks & Sons "Crown Silver Division" which includes images of a tray and other wares typical of the kind bearing these marks. https://i.postimg.cc/RV2tP1FB/h-sacks-and-sons-crown-silver-01s.jpg https://i.post...

Re: The Continental Silver Co. and The Continental Silver Co. and the......

Following up on this I came across an old auction listing for a brochure, published on behalf of H. Sacks & Sons of Brookline in 1941, which clearly states "Crown Silver Division". I wasn't convinced at first, but on further investigation, it seems plausible that "The Crown Silver...

Are you able to change the subject line for this post, in case anyone else is searching for the mark?

Also interested to know if there's any significance to the "Q" ...

Re: Mark "DLRL" and "Q" on silver plated bowl

Thanks Dognose for the very quick response. Yes, having delved a little further, I have found a couple of other examples of the mark, a little clearer, as well as a trademark registration for this "logo" of the 'word' "OLRI" in an oval. https://i.postimg.cc/tgDC7WDd/olri-greggio-...

Mark "OLRI" and "Q" on silver plated bowl

I'm struggling to identify the mark on a silver-plated bowl. The bowl itself looks like this ... https://i.postimg.cc/wTHpy9Bq/dlrl-mark-on-bowl-04.jpg Here are three views of the mark - different shots of the same mark, in the hope of shedding light on what it says. I read it as "DLRL", b...

I have encountered another example of these marks, on a plated tray. https://i.postimg.cc/XYC7wkN0/silver-tray-hallmarks-04.jpg One trio of marks features a bird, perhaps a Phoenix, and a Lion Rampant, positioned either side of a five-pointed star inside a square. https://i.postimg.cc/02rNNqLj/silve...

Unsolved Lion Trademark Mystery, 9 years on

While trying to identify the maker of this set of salad servers, with a distinctive Lion trademark, I came across a question posted on another forum in 2013, asking the same question, but still, 9 years later, awaiting a response. I don't hold out much hope! https://i.postimg.cc/7L1BQRBY/lion-creest...

Re: Unusual mark for J Deakin & Sons

Thanks Fishless, and apologies for the slow acknowledgement of your thoughts. I tend to agree. If it helps, I have managed to source a (slightly blurry) photo showing the front of the spoon, which is one in a set of six. They are not mine, I should add. https://i.postimg.cc/pr3yjsMK/deakin-spoon-fin...

Re: I came across this silver(plate?) tea set with a hallmark I cannot ID; can someone please help

That is the silver plate trademark for the Crown Silver Company (with the initials "CSC" in the small shield-shaped elements below the crown) of Brookline in Massachusetts. The company was founded in the mid-1930s, and survived through to about 1950. Not sterling - sorry.

Unusual mark for J Deakin & Sons

Like everyone else (probably) I am very familiar with the firm of James Deakin & Sons, of Sheffield, mainly as makers of electro-plate, but also sterling ware. However, I've not come across this style of mark previously, and wondered if anyone else could shed some light on why (or when) this was...

French "Lion" trademark on plated wares

I have come across a very distinctive trademark on a pair of plated napkin holders. Evidently French; Madame et Monsieur , but despite extensive searching, no luck with identifying the maker. Judging by the style, I would assume the holders were made c1920 - 1930. https://i.postimg.cc/k2By2VRh/frenc...

The style of the marks has the appearance of several other US silver manufacturers. Is there a thought that this might also be an American company?

Re: Mystery SonC Plate Marks - American?

Thanks Trev. Seeing the "L" for the first time at least offers some leads. The quality of the plate is actually very good, and judging by the style and range of items in this set, especially the spirit kettle, this must have been a fairly competent business. I will start by search afresh. ...

Mystery SonC Plate Marks - American?

I have exhausted all avenues trying to identify a series of very distinctive marks on a silver plate on copper tea set. http://georgeclewsceramics.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/silver_on_copper_03.jpg The full set comprises tray, teapot, coffee pot, spirit kettle, milk jug and sugar bowl, with a ...

Re: MIDDLECOTT, Edward (Grimwade p.596, 597)

Just a small correction. Edward's daughter Eliza Mary, who married the American actor, had three children. As well as the two girls, Ida and Fanny, they also had a son, James, born in 1837.

Re: MIDDLECOTT, Edward (Grimwade p.596, 597)

Having recently acquired a spoon marked for Edward Middlecott, I have been doing some research into his family. I've been unable to confirm that the Edward Middlecott registered as living in St. Mary Newington in 1841, and dying there in 1846, is the same Edward Middlecott, Silversmith, since the Ne...

That's brilliant Peter, thank you. I saw it as JTS, and crossed axes, but clearly it's JFS and hammers. Thanks also for confirming Kooiman for the second mark. You've been very helpful.
