General question on Hamburg marks

I have a general question on Hamburg marks. I read the section on it on this website, but I didn't see a minimum purity level associated with the Hamburg marks. The Hamburg marks I've seen on item only have the towers mark and the maker's mark, but no purity mark, like 800 or 835. Can I assume that a...

Re: Are these Indian sterling silver?

It's just a gut feeling. I have seen a multitude of silverplate marks that look like that, but never a solid silver mark that looks like it. This is why I would be wary and would like to test it out before buying. Good luck Amena Thank you for the clarification. That was definitely one of my concer...

Are these Indian sterling silver?

I'm thinking of picking up a couple of Indian items, but I'm not sure if they're actually sterling silver. They're marked "S.T. SILVER"; the seller said they were given to him by a wealthy Indian couple. The other mark is "S.A", which I assume to be the maker's mark, but I've nev...

B.S.O sterling silver vessel

I recently acquired this piece (probably a sugar bowl), but I have never heard of the maker. It's marked "B.S.O" or "B.S.C", along with "STERLING" and "90". I couldn't find this mark anywhere online. Based on the way it's marked, I assume it's American made, b...

Re: German 800 silver tea set (3 pieces)

Wow, thank you all! This is exactly what I have, a perfect match! I've never had Belgian silver before, so this is great! Is the A inscribed inside the hexagon the import/export mark? Also, I read that the triangle mark with 3 stars was used from 1892 to 1942. Is there any way to date these pieces m...

Re: German 800 silver tea set (3 pieces)

Great, thanks! I think I see a star in the corner in two of the triangular marks, but couldn't tell much more.

Anyone have any insights?

Re: German 800 silver harp

Great, thanks! I also recognize the marks are not the clearest in the image. What I saw with a loupe was a shield divided into 3 parts with a "T". The upper part appears to say "G.R" or "G.P" in script. The bottom left resembles the Karl Kurz mark with 3 K's or maybe 3 ...

German 800 silver tea set (3 pieces)

3-piece German 800 silver tea set, including tea pot, coffee pot, and cream, I believe. Seller said he previously sold off another piece, likely the sugar, so it's incomplete, unfortunately. I can make out the following marks: ⋅ Crescent moon and crown that's on every piece ⋅ 800...

German 800 silver harp

I just purchased a silver collection. I was able to decipher some of the marks, but I'm having trouble with the rest, with this being one of them. I searched through the site database, but couldn't find anything similar. This is a German 800 silver harp, measuring just shy of 3 inches long. I believ...

Aztec 800 silver vase

Hello, I need some help identifying the mark on this vase. Seller said it's Aztec, but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance! Here're the images: https://i.ibb.co/ZzJG7xB/s-l1601.jpg https://i.ibb.co/KGV4RfR/s-l1602.jpg https://i.ibb.co/gPBCJC1/s-l1600.jpg

That's really cool if it's a stirrup cup! This is the first time I had even heard of stirrup cups, so I definitely learned something new.

Any thoughts on when this may have been made?

Re: German 800 silver lady's riding boot

Thank you for the reply. Unless I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure it's the crescent moon and crown on the right, which is the standard German mark after 1886, so I'm not sure if this is Hanau. But it could still be marked in the style of Hanau with the other 2 marks. The marks are unfortunately pretty w...

German 800 silver lady's riding boot

I just acquired this small German 800 silver lady's riding boot with a spur. Previous owner said it's a vase, but I guess it could just be decorative with beautiful and ornate repousse work. Not sure if it comes in a pair or not. It measures 4.75 inches high, 3 inches long at the toe, and 1.5 inches...

Sterling silver coconut shell wine decanter?

I recently acquired this antique hand carved sterling & coconut shell wine decanter, measuring 8.4" x 3.9" and 242.4 grams. Exact provenance has not been established, as no visible markings have been found. The previous owner performed a scratch test to confirm sterling silver content....
