German 800 silver bowl

I just purchased this 800 bowl, but am having trouble tracking down the maker/silversmith. The mark appears to be a dot inside a circle. The closest I could find was Weinranck & Schmidt from Hanau. Any insight would be very much appreciated. The images are below. Thank you in advance. https://i....

Beautiful 800 silver tray

First, can one of the admins please kindly move this to the right forum? I unfortunately have no idea which country this came from, only that it appears European. Hence I posted it in this forum; apologies for any inconvenience. Here are some images of the 800 tray and the marks. One of the marks ap...

Re: Hanau family crest and marks on perfume bottle (?)

Better you test it to make sure it's solid silver. Regards Amena Thank you, Amena. That's a very good question. The seller actually said it's silver-plated, but I took a risk. After I bought it, I asked a reputable auction house in Germany, and they said that these are Hanau marks. My understanding...

Hanau family crest and marks on perfume bottle (?)

I just purchased this item (on impulse) that appears to be a perfume bottle. It's got a family crest and (Hanau) marks that I cannot find anywhere. The crest has 2 griffins, one on each side, and another smaller one in the middle on top of the shield. The (Hanau) marks appear to be a 3-pointed crown...

Thanks again, Guido.

Has anyone seen these marks before? Is this item Hanau?

Re: Are these legit Georg Roth marks?

Thank you for the reply, Guido. Your marks appear to be classic Georg Roth marks and match up very well with the GR marks in the database on this website. I unfortunately couldn't find any information on the other 2 marks.

Are these legit Georg Roth marks?

Are these legit Georg Roth marks? I see the mark with the crown and the stylized A, which I believe is classic Georg Roth. However, I'm not familiar with the mark on the left and the mark on the right. Is anyone familiar with those 2 marks? Is this Georg Roth, or at least Hanau? The images are below...

Re: General question on Hamburg marks

Hello, in many cases a German city mark would also guarantee a certain minimum fineness, so an additional mark would not be necessary. This was the case in Hamburg and Altona, believe the minimum standard was 12 Lot / 750 fine. 800 was very uncommon before 1884. Regards, Bahner Perfect, thank you! ...

Hamburg L. Victor mark

Sorry for yet another thread, but as you can probably tell, I've been expanding my German collection lately. This is the very first Hamburg silver item I've picked up. It has the 3 tower mark and what appears to be "L. Victor" for the silversmith. However, I couldn't find any info on "...

I think both pieces are solid silver, possibly of lower fineness in the first example, e.g. 750.
Attribution looks OK.

Are these fake German marks?

I came across an item that has roused my suspicion a bit. The seller is presenting the item as silver-plated, which is fine, but when I look at the marks, I see crescent moon and crown. There's no purity mark, though. However, the size of the item does not quite match the weight of the item, so I'm ...

A couple of question Hanau pieces

I came across a couple of Hanau pieces that are a little peculiar, or maybe it's just due to my own lack of understanding. For the first piece (Item A), the bottom part is completely green. Is that normal? It's also not marked 800 or any other purity. Does that mean it's not silver, or maybe silver-...

Re: Is this Austrian silver?

Thank you all for the replies! I did end up purchasing this item. I will try to post better photos when I receive it. Can you see any analogies with this mark? https://i.postimg.cc/ctcCwrSb/pampa.jpg On the partial mark on the left can you read FI ? If so, then it is Pampaloni of Florence. Just a gu...

Re: Hamburg Silver Purity and Alloying elements

there is a little abstract of an article about Hamburg silver fineness from silverport: Since 1760 'Hamburg Proof' must be 12 Lot (.750); contrary to an Imperial edict from 1667 of 13 Lot (.8125). 1845 and 1847 the Guild report to towns control administration an actual 'Standard' of 11 Lot 12 Gran ...

Thank you for the reply. I actually haven't purchased this yet. Based on these marks, is it safe to assume that it's 800 silver?

Is this Austrian silver?

I'm trying to figure out where this piece hails from. It looks like the Austrian dog head mark for 800. It also says 800, which is more common in Germany (or Germany-speaking countries). I'm not familiar with the last mark, which I assume is the maker's mark? Any insight you can provide would be app...
